Biana was angry. Very angry. She supposed it was going to pass. She was mad at Fitz for the most part. Making fun of Tam at lunch.

She was also mad at her friends, not doing anything to stop him.

She was not mad at Lihn, who opted out of sitting with them at lunch or hanging out with them altogether, instead joining her brother at a small table in the corner.

She was not mad at Tam, who she loved with all her heart.

She was mad at Alvar, who she blamed the whole thing on.

But when Tam left a note asking to talk to her, she couldn't help but be a little angry.

He met her at the auditorium after school.

He stayed away from her, not wanting to overstep boundaries.

Biana spoke first. "Why'd you go along with it?" She asked.

Tam didn't have words. "I guess I just wanted to make sure my sister would be safe. Being a target of the Neverseen is worse than being in it."

"Why'd you keep going along with it?"

"I guess I was being selfish. In the beginning I didn't recognize it, but I was starting to fall for you."

"Have you ever lied to me?"

He nodded sadly.

"Then tell me this Tam Dai Song. Was anything we had real?"

Tam couldn't meet her eyes. "It felt real to me. But I decided that I couldn't do it to you any longer. Use you to destroy your family."

Biana was sobbing at this point. "I loved you more than I thought anyone could love. I thought we were forever. You even got my family's stamp of approval. I love you so much Tam!"

Tam pressed his eyes shut. "As long as you're safe, and Alvar is not coming for you, that's all I need."

But even Biana could tell he was lying. "Tam-" she started.

But Tam had run.
