Xavier appreciated everything Justin was trying to do to make her feel better. She really did, but she just couldn't look at herself the same way. Sure she didn't grow horns or a third eye or anything but she just didn't look like herself anymore. All she wanted was a sense of normalcy, but she looked out of the ordinary in her opinion. Her scars also didn't exactly help her blend into a crowd either. She looked at them in the mirror and her body was wracked with utter disgust at herself. Before she could ruin her confidence in herself even more, she threw on her clothes and exited the bathroom, using the crutches to prop herself up and exit the room.
Justin waiting and walking with her to the meeting honestly meant more to him than he thought. It was nice having someone there with her, just to remind her that she didn't need to face everything by herself. He was just easy to talk to and he never left her when she was struggling.
They made their way down the corridor to the command center, nothing but silence and the clicking of her crutches hitting the floor as she moved alongside her friend. The entrance to the command center was a set of silver double sliding doors with the red "A" in the center of a black Phoenix. The doors slid open, revealing her friends along with Ace, Rucker, Sam, and John standing around the holo table, with an area left empty for her and Justin to stand.
They moved forward, the holo table showing a map of the globe with a red marker indicating where they were.
"Alright Ms. Washington, explain to us what you found during your time overseas," Rucker addressed her.
She took a deep breath before answering, "When I first was assigned there, it was strictly sanitation. Over time I was able to get one of the lab techs to trust me and I got to see some of the less important stuff. One night he mistakenly left his computer open and I was able to see it all. It looked like they had made contact with something in that other dimension. Dr. Zhabiv began to call the portal 'The Door to Hell'. I was investigating what made the portal run when they found me out. Despite...everything they did to me, I didn't tell them where I was from or who sent me. I hardly gave them my name. After not getting results they threw me into the portal. That's when I...uh," she paused. Something didn't feel right. It was like her stomach was twisting itself all the way around. "I.." she couldn't even get out another word. It was a struggle to even breathe properly.
"Hey are you okay?" Justin asked. She couldn't even acknowledge him. "Tell them about me," a voice in her head told her. Xavier thought she was going crazy. Maybe all that time there really did affect her mental state worse than she thought. She wobbled on her crutches, almost falling right into the holo table and she would have if Justin didn't catch her. She barely had time to register where she was. She felt light headed, and her vision went black.
