Cheesecake and Orgasms
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." – Lao Tzu

"Attention all passengers on Flight 3479 to Chicago O'Hare." Came a loud voice over the speakers in the terminal at LaGuardia Airport. "Unfortunately, due to the inclement weather in Chicago, Flight 3479 has been delayed until tomorrow at 7 AM. We apologize for any in – "
I let out a deep sigh as I made my way to the ticket booth to stand in line behind the other irritated passengers. You'd think I was used to situations like these by now, yet somehow, delayed flights – no matter how frequent – got more and more annoying each time.
Not that there was much for me to go home to but still – it would have been nice to be in the comfort of my own home rather than stuck at the closest hotel to the airport.
As the United flight attendant handed me a hotel voucher for the night, I gave her a tight smile and dragged my carry-on towards the exit.
After hailing a cab, the ride to New York LaGuardia Airport Marriot was very short. During the car ride, I made sure to call the office back in Chicago and let them know I won't be in until late tomorrow morning, maybe even noon. It wasn't uncommon for those of us who traveled a lot, but they still wanted to be aware.
After the receptionist handed me my room key, I stepped into the elevator and hit the 10th floor.
The room was your standard hotel room with a large king-sized bed in the middle, two wooden side tables each with a black single light wall sconce above each it. There was also a large TV mounted on the wall directly across from the bed. The deep purple curtains were open, allowing the lights from outside to shine in.
Quickly pulling the curtains shut, I placed my luggage next to the bed and made my way downstairs to the bar. I was starving, having only eaten breakfast thing morning, and I could really use a drink now.
Ditmars Bar & Grill was bustling with guests by the time I arrived. No doubt many of the people here were in the same boat as me, stuck here overnight due to a delayed flight. Almost all the bar seating was occupied, luckily I was able to find an available stool towards the end.
As I took in my surroundings, the lights at the bar were dimmed except for the ceramic pendants above the bar and the flush mount lighting scattered around the room. A large mirror made up the wall behind the bar, lined with hundreds of bottles of alcohol and a neon blue light shining behind the register.
I settled in my seat and immediately picked up the paper menu lying around. I quickly scanned it before settling on a cheeseburger with fries and a Cosmopolitan.
As I waited for the bartender to come back with my drink, I decided this was as good a time as any to check my personal phone.
Three missed calls from my mom.
Ten texts from my sister.
Five texts from my best friend.
Yikes!
I figured it was best to tackle my mother's wrath before everyone else's. After all, you know what they say, nothing is scarier than a missed call from your mother. In my case, that was quite literally true. Despite being twenty-eight years old, my mother still freaks out and thinks someone kidnapped me if I don't answer the phone the first time she calls.
As I dialed her number, she picked up on the second ring. "They made cell phones so that you can answer them!"
"Hello to you too mom." I rolled my eyes even though she couldn't see me. "I'm sorry I didn't answer, my flight got delayed until tomorrow morning and I just made it to the hotel."
