"Have fun boys!" Megan called out before closing the door behind her. She then turned to me, a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips.
I shook my head, continuing to scroll through the list of movies on Disney+. "I cannot believe we let those two go out on their own."
"Why not?" Megan yelled from the kitchen. "From what Eric tells me, the two of them really hit it off at your birthday party?"
"Exactly!" I exclaimed, twisting around just in time to see her walking back into the living room with a bowl of popcorn in one hand and a bag of Reese's peanut butter cups in the other. "I can't have Eric revealing my crazy side. We both know you have a hard time keeping your mouth shut around him."
"Please –" She snorted, plopping down next to me. "Eric could tell him you murdered someone, and Ethan would ask when and where so he could be your alibi and help you cover it up. That man is head over heels in love with you. There's nothing anybody can tell him that will make him feel otherwise." I scowled, but she snorted, focusing on the bowl of popcorn in front of her.
"Where do you keep the weed?" She asked after a couple of minutes of silence. "Is it still in your pantry in a Ziplock bag?"
I nodded, finally settling on The Avengers.
Megan and I were long overdue for a girls' day, and she thought it would be a good idea if Eric and Ethan went to a Cubs game while the two of us hung out. I tried protesting the idea because it was weird to have my best friend's husband and my boyfriend hanging out so soon, but both Eric and Ethan jumped at it.
While the boys were at the game, Megan and I had plans to watch a movie, get high and then join them for dinner afterward.
"You need a better hiding spot for this." She rolled her eyes, gesturing to the Ziplock bag when she came back.
"I'm twenty-nine." I snorted. "I don't need to hide my weed anymore."
Megan and I passed a joint back and forth in the dark, the only light emitting from the TV glare and what was shining through the edges of the curtains. "How are things between you and Ethan?" She asked, taking a big hit and passing it back to me.
"We're... we're great." I smiled, taking a long drag and holding the smoke in. When I did exhale, my vision clouded with swirls of gray smoke.
The new year rolled around quickly, and before I knew it, we were already four months into the new year.
I had officially known Ethan for more than a year now, and things were great between the two of us. We were practically spending all of our free time together, and there hadn't been any drama since his birthday in January when his father dropped by for an unexpected visit. Thinking it was the takeout we had ordered, I opened the front door with nothing but a sheet wrapped around me. Quite frankly, I would do it all over again if it meant that I could capture the look on his father's face on camera.
"Am I sensing a ring on that finger any time soon?" Megan asked, stubbing out the joint.
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves now." I rolled my eyes, laughing. "We've only been dating for a while."
"Fine." She held her hands up in surrender. "All I'm saying is – I think he's the one."
"Yeah..." I kept my eyes on the TV. "I think so too."
