Happily Ever After

"And the rest is happily ever after." – Jennifer Echols

[Four years later]

"Can you pass me that white blouse?" I shouted from the bathroom, applying a coat of mascara to my eyelashes.

A few moments later, Ethan stepped into the doorway wearing nothing but a pair of black boxers and holding a hanger with my blouse on it. "I'd much rather help you take it off." He smirked condescendingly which only makes me glare at him harder through the bathroom mirror.

"And I'd much rather you fuck off." I smiled sweetly, screwing the cap back on the tube of mascara and shoving it into my make-up bag.

Slipping the blouse over my head – careful not to smear my make-up – I looked up at Ethan. "Well – how do I look?"

I unfortunately had not been able to shed some of the extra baby weight I put on – fifteen founds to be precise – after pushing four little monsters out of my vagina. And don't even get me started on the stretch marks. Ethan on the other hand looked just as sexy as he did when I first met him, only older and slightly more mature. Emphasis on the slightly.

His green eyes continued to study mine for a moment before replying, "Sexy as always." Ethan said with finality as his eyes roamed my body. Rolling my eyes, I brushed past him as I went in search of a pair of heels to pair with the black pants and white blouse I decided to wear today.

It would be my first time back at work since I had the twins, and to say I was nervous would be an understatement. I wasn't going back to the same position I had back then – if fact, I was going back to a much lower position – but I needed something to get me out of the house.

Seven years and four kids later, I was willing to be a barista at Starbucks for less than  minimum wage if it meant I could get out of the house and away from the constant bickering.

Mom, Asher took my toys.

Charlotte, you can't play with us.

Charlotte, go away.

Mom!

Parker and Asher are being mean to me!

River, it's my turn on the XBox.

"Come here," Ethan said, pulling me into his arms and nuzzling his way into the nape of my neck. "You'll be fine. They're lucky to have you back."

I playfully rolled my eyes as I tilted my head to look up at him. "You're still mad I didn't agree to come work for you, aren't you?"

"No." He snorted, bending to capture my lips with his. When he pulled back, his lips curled up in a small smirk. "Although the offer does still stand."

"Not happening!" I scoffed, pulling out of his embrace. "Now leave so I can finish getting ready."

Ten minutes later when I walked into the kitchen, I almost dropped my phone at the scene in front of me. My daughter – my sweet angelic daughter – was standing up on a chair to match her older brother's height as she poured a bowl of cereal over his head.

Asher, who had been asleep at the table, jolted awake and wildly scanned the room. When his eyes landed on Charlotte's giggling face, he darted towards her.

"ETHAN!"

"What?" He asked, jogging down the stairs – now fully clothed. When he came to a halt next to me, his eyes landing on Asher's wet hair and him chasing Charlotte around the kitchen, he burst out laughing.
