Chapter – 22
Dad entered home with stormy steps hassling all around. And before I could initiate the matter that bothered me so much, he said panting, "Rayan, an assassin has eloped from the cell and has been reported to be somewhere in this town. I have to leave. Keep this with you and call me if there's any emergency." Dad handed me his licensed gun in a box and hurried off!
I kept the box under my bed and looked at the clock as it's second hand kept on ticking, while I sat on the bed waiting for Jenny.
Scene-2 (At Jenny's place)
Jenny entered her room, dropped her bag on the bed and went to the restroom. She took out a tablet of Hydroxycut in her closet that was on the wash-basin and put it in mouth. She splashed water on her face and wet her hair-locks that hanged in front. She came out with tired steps and opened the zip of her bedding. She frantically moved her hands inside, and got all tensed on finding out the box of drugs missing from there. She sat down with her hands holding her head and seemed anxious! That is when she realized that it must be Rayan who had taken it away and that is the reason he skipped college that morning and had called her asking to meet him. She stood up and left to meet him immediately.
The main door was already open and Jenny reachedmy place in no time. I could hear her heels clutter against the stairs as she ran straight up to my room. "Rayaannn!" She yelled. I stood up. She stopped at my room's door, panting. "WHERE IS THE BOX!?" She almost roared. I went closeto her, "J, first calm down. Sit here." She pushed me away and started behaving hysterically. She kept on shouting and stamping her feet on the floor, shaking her head, crying and sweating, all at the same time, "JUST GIVE THAT DAMN BOXTO ME!! I HAVEN'T COME HERE NOW ALL THE WAY TO FUCKING LISTEN TO YOUR *CALMDOWN*! YOU GET IT!??" "Jenny... You have to stop shouting first. Sit down hereand listen to me. I'll bring the box. Wait here," I said. She seemed impossible to handle, insane! She sat down on my bed. I went downstairs, and called up Father Andrew, "Father, this is Rayan. Can you come to my home immediately? Please Father?" I turned back to see Jenny standing. Jenny heard me talk. She rushed up to my room again. Before I could hear the response from the other side,I hung up following Jenny. When I stepped inside my room, she stood there withthe box lying on the floor that dad gave to me before leaving, and her hands shivering as she pointed the gun towards me. I stood there shocked, as shelooked wild and unfamiliar, with hair all over her face, wet in sweat. The room echoed as her breaths got louder. "Give that fucking box to me. I need. I NEEDIT !!" She screamed! "I will not," I refused. I was calm. And just then, she pushed the trigger. As I turned back to see it hole through the cupboard that was right next to me, she shot again. This time, I felt the shot right on my forehead. Deep inside. Numbing me down, as my brain started to seize. I stood there in pain as Father Andrew arrived. On seeing him, Jenny dropped the gun and started to cry loudly. He stood all stupefied, seeing her that way and wentto her without minding me standing right next to the door. Jenny told him everything that had happened, and apologized to him crying unstoppably. I tried to console her from there as I couldn't move, my body pained. But she didn't stop. I tried to convince Father that everything is fine, we will help Jenny out and that I am all right. But neither Father nor Jenny was ready to listen to me.
