Chapter – 9
I banged Nadiya’s door a thousand times, after which I received an irritated response that she is not coming to College. It’s our 4th day of college and my 3rd day of heading there alone. We had no idea what was wrong with her and neither did she talk to us about it. She cocooned herself in that room and chose to stay isolated for 3days now!
Dad was at home, so I decided to take the car, as walking for 30minutes everyday all myself wasn’t really as exciting. And by now, I’ve mugged up the names of all the boards of the shops, befriended few shopkeepers and had tried out my hands in a very much fascinating wood-colored Ukulele at YouTune. I didn’t forget to mention about my new crush to dad though! Well, its just October and I hope Paul (the owner of YouTune), sells it to nobody before 10th of June. Ya that’s how late my birthday is from now. “Better late than never…!” I mumbled louder to myself as Roadie took an acute right turn and drove past the entrance of our University. By the way, I lovvve naming things, to feel more comfortable with solitude. And Roadie is what I’ve called our car ever since Dad brought it home. I was eleven.
I parked Roadie, dropped the keys in my bag and checked out myself at the wing mirror one last time before rushing to my classroom, that was on the first floor of the 2nd building. Lecture had already begun but I was allowed inside. Thankfully, Lee was one good friend I have made quite soon, who always came early and kept an adjacent place for me as well. Of course, in the last row.
As the bell rang for lunch, Lee & I went to the locker. While he was arranging things, I was into my phone, scrolling through all the useless notifications. As I looked up, I caught Nikki in the locker right opposite. She had b e a u t i f u l brown hair, all tied up tight in a high pony. She shut the locker and turned back. I was still having a hearts-on-eyes gaze at her. In a light pink oversized pullover and black shorts, she looked like a dolled-up nerd, or a nerded-up doll. Don’t know exactly. I tried to zoom in her face, with my God blessed eyes perhaps. She had big brown eyes, with a round black Harry Potter frame on them. And slender, dark pink lips. What a cutie! “Dude!!” Lee gave me a mild elbow-blow on my right hand. I realized how greatly I’ve gotten myself into an embarrassment. But, to my surprise, when I tried to look at Nikki again, she smiled. She SMILED! And I stood there like molten ice, with a shabby-guilty-confused yet happy face. She left. I was still smiling. “You’re weird!” Lee smirked and took me by my collar with him.
On my way back home, I was talking to Roadie about my assumptions regarding what impression must have I created for Nikki. Does she like white? Should I wear this white Tee and blue denim more often? Or did she like me for other reasons? Wait wait wait.. does she even like me anyway? Or was it just a normal greeter smile that she gave. But she doesn’t do that to anyone. Then what was it?
