Chapter -7
I started to look for other pictures of this guy. And to my astonishment, all the boards were covered by pictures of this guy. He was on the top of the list of The Academic Achievers 2005. All I could see with my utterly baffled eyes and mind is his pictures everywhere, overshadowing other things. In the academic achievers list, there was a passport size photograph of him in a formal blue shirt with well-set black hair and rimless glasses. His eyes were bright black and hallucinating. Another picture of him in a white shirt, black pants and grey blazer, receiving a certificate from an elderly gentleman was pinned beside the tag "Most Promising Student of the Year 2005-06" in a cutout at the corner of the noticeboard labeled ACADEMICS. Immersed in innumerable questions, my eyes slowly lost focus and got to see the reflection of a girl much shorter than me, standing diagonally behind me, on the glass casing the noticeboard.
I turned towards her, but her watery eyes from behind the large, round & black framed specs were fixed on the board. She seemed concerned. With her long brown hair, she looked like a baby Rapunzel. Sometimes my mind loses track and makes weird Disney comparisons. "Do you know him?" I asked. She looked at me and gave a mild nod. "Can you tell me his name?" I looked straight into her eyes. She replied, "He is.." "Heyy Nadii!" Noah bumped in. The greatest interloper of all times. He put his arm around my shoulder, "Have you already met my new friend Niki?" He was a complete incongruity in this situation and our respective moods. However, his interruption lowered the awkwardness and lightened my mood somehow. Also, I got to know that she was from his class. On the other hand, Niki felt quite uncomfortable, probably that's why she left. Noah didn't expect this and wanted to know what had happened. I too didn't know what has actually happened.
On our way back home, my silence and indifference convinced Noah that I was in some sort of trouble. As we reached, I left my bag at the drawing and went to Noah's room instead. He made me sit on his bed and asked me what was wrong. I kept mum. How could I have explained to him that nothing is going right, all that is happening is so not acceptable. That my mind and eyes are crushing me from within in the devastating venture of finding out the reality. Noah read my mind I guess and so he suggested that we can exchange rooms, if that's what is bothering me. I found no words, I just wanted to unleash my turmoil for a while. I hugged my brother tight, "Thanks Noa.."
