Chapter – 26
I opened the door and got in. Jenny looked hesitant. “Come in..” I said. Jenny walked in slowly. Her heels echoed in our coridoor. Earlier that morning, Jenny called me asking whether she can come over to see our farms. Perhaps, I welcomed her. We all had been waiting for this.
Mom, Dad had already left for work. She looked around our home in stupor, not responding to my words. “Can we go up there?” She asked as gently as she could. I could sense the fright on her face. “Sure. Why not?” I replied. I walked up ahead of her. She followed slowly. The silence of the dark and cloudy morning, and emptiness of our spacious home added on to her fear I felt.
We climbed up to the top floor, entered inside Nadiya’s room. It was open. “Noah, can u get me water? I’m dying of thirst,” Jenny said. I very well understood why she wanted me to go. “Of course. Give me a minute,” I left the room and came down. She didn’t waste a second after I left. She rushed with her search for the earring I’ve told her about. While looking for the evidence that never really existed, she had a feeling someone is watching her. She didn’t pay much heed. She just had a few minutes to remove the evidence she thought she had left. The continuous feeling of someone watching her now bothered her. She turned around slowly.
Unaware of the fact that Noah had a twin, she found a distorted figure hanging from the ceiling with tangled brown messy hair covering the face. She felt a weird hollowness in the stomach and got too shocked to scream. The disfigured creature jumped down and landed on both its hands and feet. Jenny couldn’t make out what it was and couldn’t distinguish the face from the body. Jenny stood there dumbfounded. “I had been waiting for so long to meet you my heart,” a spectral voice echoed in the room. The possessed body started walking towards Jenny. As she looking at the reflection of the figure in the mirror behind, she felt a horripilation of dread down her body. She recognized the reflection. It was Rayan. Jenny started to run down the stairs faster than she could. Nadiya’s possessed body ran after her, like a wild animal set free from the cage, running after its prey after days of starvation. Jenny didn’t stop for a moment seeing the figure chasing her. She tripped off her heels. She got up, took them off and ran. She kept running until she reached our farm. She tried hiding behind the well. But her hair blew with the winds, and she couldn’t escape from the eyes of Rayan. She panted, she kept screaming from the bottom of her lungs, “HELP!! SOMEBODY HELP ME! NOAHHH! NOOOOO” Her voice broke as she kept yelling. Seeing the body approach her, she took an axe that lay near the well. As Nadiya’s body tried to catch hold of her, she tried to hit her back. But the axe fell. She couldn’t defend herself. Nadiya thrusted her down into the well and took off the pendant from her neck. She threw that into the well after Jenny. Jenny didn’t retire from her screams. She tried to climb up the well, struggling to breathe from the water down there. But a dark figure with blank white eyes, caught hold of her, and pulled her inside. Nadiya swiped close the heavy concrete lid of the well that lay aside, with her leg.
Nadiya went back to her room and passed out on the floor. She lacked any more energy to move.
Nikki and me were walking back to my home, curious whether the mission went successful. To make sure there was no evidence kept whatsoever during the incident, I left home the moment Jenny tried to send me away.
As we reached our gate, Dad’s car also neared slowly. Mom and Dad got down, after having a long day at work. “Hi son! Who’s this?” Mom asked with a delighted smile. “Meet Nikki, she’s my College friend Mom,” I replied. “Too pretty to just be a College friend, Son,” Dad laughed. Nikki and I shared awkward eye contacts.
A loud gunshot reverberated from our house, all the birds flapped their wings off from our rooftop. All four of us ran inside. Nikki and me hurried upstairs to Nadiya’s room. She lay there, dead.
