(Alexis's POV) *one month later*
I'm going to my friends house for a sleepover tonight! It's going to be so much fun!! Daddy comes into my room. "Are you sure you want to go pumpkin?"
"Yes daddy I'm sure." He sighs a little.
"Okay.."
He helps me pack my bag. He picks out pajamas, clothes for tomorrow, my hair brush, tooth brush, toothpaste..you get the idea.
"If you need anything tonight you can have Kayla's mom call me okay?"
"Okay."
We go out to the car. With his help I get into the car seat. Yes I'm still short. But I can do my seatbelt all by myself. Daddy drives me to Kayla's house and then rings the doorbell.
Her mom opens the door and smiles at us. "Hi Lexi! Hello corpse. Thank you for letting her stay over. The other girls are in Kayla's room right now if you want to go honey."
"Okay..bye daddy I love you." I say hugging him.
"Bye bug. I'll see you soon." He says kissing my forehead.
I run off to Kayla's room to see Maddie, Georgie and Frankie. "Hi.."
"LEXI YOU CAME!!!" Kayla yells and hugs me really tight.
"Kayla. I can't breatheeeeee" she giggles and let's go leaving me sucking in breaths.
"What are we going to do?" Maddie asks.
"I don't know. We could play outside or go swimming." Kayla says.
Kayla never said anything about swimming. I can't swim..
All the other girls agree. Oh no..
"I- I don't have a swimsuit.."
"You can borrow one of mine Lexi." Kayla hands me one. It makes me uncomfortable even looking at it. It's a pink swimsuit with unicorns on it. I don't like people looking at my arms, legs or stomach. It's where all my marks are from my old mummy and daddy..
"Come on Lexi go change. I'm getting my brothers to come." She says and goes off. Her older brothers scare me. Boys scare me in general..
I go to the bathroom to change. When I'm done I see myself in the mirror. These marks have been here for months..they aren't going away anytime soon. Apparently I've been in here for a while because there's a knock on the door.
I open it to see Owen, Kayla's older brother. He is 16. That's scary.
"You okay? The others are already out back swimming." He tells me. I just nod a little and look down at the floor.
Owen crouches down in front of me. "If there is anything bothering you, you can let me know. I want you to be able to trust me."
Once again I nod slightly and we go out back. Owen jumps in the pool while Maddie, Kayla, Georgie and Frankie swim around where the water is shallow.
I hear running behind me followed by 3 splashes in the water. When the people resurface I see that it's Kayla's other brothers, Seth, Jack and Kacey. Kayla has told me that Seth is 12 and Jack and Kacey are 9.
I decide to just sit on the edge of the pool. It's much safer here. A few minutes later Owen comes over to me. "Why aren't you in the water? Do you know how to swim?" I shake my head disappointed with myself.
"That's nothing to be upset about..how about this? Just hug on to me and I'll take you where you want to go."
"Like a koala bear?" I smile. Ash told me about them.
"Yeah like a koala bear." I wrap my arms around his neck and my legs don't make it far around his waist. I hate being short..
"My daddy's friend Ash told me about koala bears. She's from Australia." I tell Owen.
"That's so cool. Well..where do you want to go?" I point over to where Kayla and the others are.
"Lexi transportation services." Owen says as we approach the girls. I giggle.
"Lexi..where did all these marks come from?" I hear Kayla ask.
"Kay..that's rude don't ask."
"What..not my fault I'm curious." Kayla says to him.
"Do your parents not love you?" Georgie asks.
"Girls stop." Owen says.
"But they are everywhere. It's just a simple question Owen..I'm asking where the marks are from."
"They're from my old mummy and daddy.."I say and hide my face against Owen.
"What? Old mummy and daddy? You have a new mummy and daddy? That's not how it works." Kayla looks almost mad.
"I have two daddies. So I don't have a mummy but I have some amazing aunts and uncles according to them.."
"You can't have two daddies either! That's just weird. I don't want to be friends anymore.."
"W-what.."
"Kayla stop it right now before I tell mom you're acting up."
"Why don't you tell Lexi's mom. Wait she doesn't have one." All the girls get out of the pool and dry off before going inside. That leaves me with her brothers.
"There's nothing wrong with having two dads or having them be your adoptive parents.." Seth says swimming over.
"I know.."
"And there's nothing wrong with it if it got you out of your old home.." Owen says. I nod.
"Seth? Owen? Why did Kay and her friends come inside telling me to send Lexi home?"
"Oh I don't know. Maybe because she's acting homophobic and she doesn't like the idea of Lex being adopted?"
"Can I go home..?" I ask about to start crying. They all go quiet for a minute.
