I wasn't really thinking. I know I was breathing and blinking, but god did I feel dead. "What did your mom do to you?" The others actually putting effort into escaping looked back at me. Me; instigating fuel for a woman with mental problems. They gave me a few nudges here and there but those were quick acts of confusion and disapproval. Me on the other hand wanted to at least leave this woman with the thought that someone had the heart to ask how she ended up where she was now, that someone actually cared to ask.
I knew we were gonna escape and I was damn sure of it. There was a quiet pause despite of the sounds Osamu made from sweeping through the shelves. "She had one job; be a good mother and she failed at that." Surrounding the shed was pure silence and serene tension. "Alcohol took over her life and rotted her brain, she became my enemy so I ran and ended up where you were, she was right behind me." She spoke like she was re-living the moment, voice quite shaky.
I could hear her fingers dragging itself against one of the shed's doors, she was really getting into her backstory. Osamu placed his hand on my hurting shoulders, we looked back at each other, his hand was hovering over the batteries. My head turned back to the doors that had a single streak of light slicing through the middle of both doors.
"She killed her own daughter because she was too drunk to comprehend it was her own child. I was only twelve! I didn't even get to experience my first day of highschool!" A big blow pounded on the shed entirely, making us all flinch. Osamu kept tugging on my shoulder, signaling he was ready to go. I heard the mirror behind me distorting whilst the portal began to unfold.
I sighed one last time, "Don't become your own replica of your mother, because from my perspective it feels like you're just like her, don't be a murderer." Samu had enough of my ranting and tugged us both into the mirror, him first then me second. In the blink of an eye the double doors flew apart and the illumination from the midnight sky sunk into the wooden shed completely, the crowbar flying to the side.
My eyes hurried wide when they laid themselves on the boy I shared chains with, I tried calling out but half of my face was already giving into the portal. With the last strength I had I used my only hand I could move to try taking a grab at his arm.
Why wasn't he trying to escape? My ears didn't deceive me back in that room we were in, it sounded like with all his heart, he was trying his fullest to escape, so why wouldn't he take the opportunity that was dangling right in front of him?!
Soon my head gave into the portal as well, leaving my arm being the only thing still poking out. Most of my body was already on the other side, in one piece, my twin kept screaming curses into my right ear— yet I was far too invested in making sure the boy had a chance to escape too.
"Just grab my hand— please.." I murmured, shutting my eyes tight. Come on boy, don't let me down. I heard a groan from the other side and felt our hands colliding. My eyes shot wide and I held onto him even tighter, throwing my whole body back to pull him through the mirror, not caring if I fell on Osamu.
Another ball of weight fell over me in a flash. I heard a light 'oomf,' making my head perk up. "You made it!" I raised the hand him and I still had collided into the air. I hastily slid off my brother's body and looked the boy in the eyes with joy. And so did he, but it wasn't as visible. He had a slight smile on his face.
Then his senses came back and his body shook up, he snatched his hand away and he was like an owl, twisting his head in every direction in fear. He abruptly stood up and shot me one last glance before he ran out of the dark shed like a strange animal. I was left baffled.
