Swift Grace (#2 in the Golden series)

chapter Three: The girl

The car pulled gently into the driveway and the biggish house loomed over me, laughing at my foolishness.

Toby turns around and reassures me he has room for me. I nod and we all get out. I take in the surroundings and scents, wondering if I should have died along with my mum. "Come on man, lets go get some food" Jay says.

I follow him up to the dinning area, Toby's mum is busy cooking and The twins are play fighting in the corner. I shouldn't be here I think to myself.

A puppy runs up to me, and nudges me, wanting to be petted. I tilt my head and ask "Why do you guys have a dog?".

Toby laughs and tells me " Because Jet and Jaze found the pup, and gave him to Hunter".

I nod but keep quiet. Just as the night comes to a close Toby ask "Will you truly be part of my pack?" I think over it and decide if I ever want to live again this could be my only chance.

"Yes" I reply, heading up to my new room. I turn to see Toby's reaction and he's smiling. I nod to him once then open my door.

I stand and study my room, the lights are dim and the room is painted my favourite colour; blue. I lay on my bed and dream of how my mum used to sing to me.

Just as I really fall asleep, I hear a cry so mournful I have to check it out. Grabbing my shirt I race down into the garden and see Hunter kicking the crap out of a punching bag.

"ARGH why, why did you have to go" She cries. I walk over to her and she turns.

"They are dead, both of them"She says.

"Who?" I ask gently.

"My parents and it's my fault" she tells me.

"No it wasn't your fault" I say firmly.

"HOW do you know" She cries.

"Because I know you would have done everything to save them so it wasn't your fault." I say trying to help her.

"No your wrong, I just sit and let them kill them" she growls.

I take a step towards her while she keeps growling. "Hey enough" I shout. She looks at me with pleading eyes so i go over and hug her.

We stay like this for hours and soon the sun start to come up. "thank you" She whispers to me. I just nod and start to get up.

"It was not your fault, remember that" I say as I head back into the house. I pass Jay on my way back to my room.

"Thanks man, she's like a sister to me." He says while walking down to get some food.

"It was nothing" I reply.

I walk just abit further and Toby blocks my path. " She really has it hard. thank you for taking care of her, she may be a pain but she's family." He says while putting his hand out.

I take it and say "really it was nothing".

"I hope you will stay with us" he says.

"Yes I will, I will do everything in my power to make her whole again" I say surprised by what I just said.

He nods then lets me go. Just as I'm about to go in my room, a girl with grey eyes and blonde hair whispers "Thank you for helping Hunter".

"It was nothing"I reply again.

"my name is Emmy by the way" She giggles.

"Lovly name and I'm kay" I say, I begin to get conscious of what I am wearing. I shake it off and say goodnight to her.

She nods then tells me she will save me some food for later. I nod and go into my room. Once I lay on my bed, I start to day dream a future with Emmy. She's beautiful I think to myself.

I sigh and get ready for some sleep time. My door creaks open and I sit up. "Hi sorry I just wanted to say, if you ever want to hang out then find me" Emmy's voice fills me with joy.

"OK" I say falling into a deep sleep.
