Athena awoke into a darkness deep than death itself.
Her vision blurred into shapes she didn't recognise, ears ringing like demonic church bells of her own screams, a faint light in the pitch black of the abyss that coated her, so faint that she didn't know if it was real or not.
A jolt zapped wherever her body was in the mass of black, the faint light zipping away with it.
"N-no! Please come back" she tried to call out to the comforting light at the end of the nothingness, but another bolt hit her body and sending it further away.
"P-slease! Let just me die!" She screeched before the finale bolt hit her, sending her back into darkness, back into her body...
The next time Athena awoke it was a different type of darkness, one she recognised as a hospital type room.
Her eyes blinked open slowly, the darkness dancing with the light from the blinding hallway.
Had it always been this difficult to open her eyes? Was blinking always this painful?
She tried to sit up but the intense jab in her stomach made it more difficult, a few minutes of lurching later and she managed to throw herself up to a semi-seated position- that was before the momentum threw her out of the presumed hospital bed.
"Mother fucker-" she tried to exclaim but only a faint sound came out of her sore throat.
Her weak hand dug into the bed behind her, the other bandaged up into a sling which did not add to her ability to get to a standing position of any sorts.
"What the-" her attention swatted from the blood now shooting out her arm to machine to IV tube bag on the floor before it went black again with the thumping of her own body on the hospital floor her only company.
Athena escaped that darkness again a few hours later, back in the once again presumed hospital bed, sunlight creeping through the window blinds to light up the empty room and reveal that she was now restrained to the bed, a familiar panic entering her chest as a figure walked through the door.
"You're awake" the doctor smiled, eyes falling to her restraints, "oh I'm sorry about those, you fell out of bed in the night and we almost lost you again so we had to make sure that didn't happen- I'll let you out now."
"W-where am I?" Her eyes darted around the space, her body frozen as he freed her from captivity that felt all too much like home for her liking.
"You're in a hospital miss..." the Irish man explained, checking his chart to confirm the right patient, "Miss Adams."
"Am I in Ireland?" She asked with a blur to her vision, shaking her head as his figure moved further away, "Where- wait where are you going?"
"I'm not going anywhere mam?" He spoke with confusion, turning to her and seeing her vitals dropping suddenly, her face pale as her body convulsed in a shock, "Mam! Stay with me- I need help! We're losing her again!"
That faint light in the darkness teased her once again, spending what felt like hours chasing it through the darkness to no avail, begging for it, for anyone, for at hung.
"Fine! I don't even wanna light- it sounds really lame!" She let out a frustrated bark into the darkness, "I'll just stay here! This dark lonely shithole is really-"
Her eyes finally opened again another 12 hours later, but this time the dark hospital room had a figure sat in the corner.
"Are you death?" She whispered, the figure didn't move until she found her voice and cursed it out in typical Athena fashion.
