The team puzzled over that phone call with Athena over the next few weeks as she continued to taunt them, seeming to be going after each team member.
Hotch's attack was the bar and kidnapping, the next day she hacked into Garcia's work computer and wiped every single file from the FBI data base before she planted it onto Garcia's home computer so it looked like she took them. Penelope was held in jail for the next 2 days whilst the team tried to prove her innocence and they only managed to do that when they figured out that Athena had done this to protect Garcia and the files from a group called 'Anonymous' who had taken a keen interest in Athena's case when it became public and were trying to fight the BAU on their own without her request for their help. A few days later the US government received a letter from Athena with names of key members of the illusive Anonymous group after they tried to kill Penelope at her apartment where they were met with Athena instead as she hacked into Garcia's phone and made up a fake date with Kevin to get her out of the house, leaving the bodies of the dead outside her front door as a warning to the rest of the Anonymous group.
A week later, Athena targeted Rossi. She managed to interfere with his latest book at the publishing house and replaced all his work with her own book about the psychology of the team and all the notes she had written about them during her time with them- making it look like Rossi had written a book calling his own team psychopaths and diagnosing them with multiple made up disorders. This caused a lot of tension in the group until the realised that Athena had done this so she could sneak into the FBI building whilst they were at the warehouse arguing. When they got back to the BAU office they found one of the higher ups of the FBI tied up with a gun set up to shoot him if they entered the room, after 6 hours they got the trap dismantled only to find that the gun didn't have any bullets in it but a note inside instead;
Do you really think I would just shoot one of the men who ruined my life? You better get him into hiding pronto before I begin my real fun with that asshole and the others just like him.
After Emily and JJ's torments over the next few weeks that just left Morgan and Reid.
"We can't keep doing this" Rossi rubbed his face as they sat in the conference room
"I would honestly prefer if she just killed us at this point" Emily drank her 3rd coffee that didn't seem to help, none of them had been sleeping properly.
"We can't keep being one step behind her all the time, she's too good at outsmarting us- it's exhausting" Morgan sighed.
"The FBI heads just want us to try and catch her with their tactics which doesn't allow us to be ahead of her" Hotch pointed out.
"What if we did that on our own though? I know she said not to but she didn't tell us her plan and this is getting too much- we could profile her next move" Reid stood up to explain his idea "she has done very well to avoid a pattern, the timing is all over the place and geographically there is no pattern except us- we are the pattern, we know that she's targeting us."
"All of her torments have been seemingly something to do with each member, right? So that leaves Morgan and I- now either she's just going to repeat the pattern or she's going to end it badly with the last person" Spencer finished as he worked on the board.
"She can't end this, there's nowhere to escape to" Emily quizzed.
"I think Reid means that she is going to..." Hotch said trailing off as they all realised.
"Kill herself?!" Morgan exclaimed in shock "No! We have to find her- Reid what do we do?"
"We first have to predict who will be next out of you and me. Given your, uh, involvement with her I assume you will be saved till last" Reid said, a hint of jealously in his voice.
