Ateez - when the boys unite

Chapter 39

A few hours had passed and Yunho still hadn’t stopped crying. His friends didn’t know what to do, no matter how worried they were. All they could do was hug him and tell him that everything was going to be ok which he responded with ‘it won’t’ and ‘I hate them’. No one knew who ‘them’ was but they all knew it was something that affects Yunho deeply.

Yeosang had woken up due to all the commotion and so he trudged out of his and Jongho’s room. He looked tired but all of that faded when he saw what state Yunho was in. He ran up to Yunho and squeezed him in an extremely tight hug. Wooyoung and Hongjoong sat back as they heard their friend’s sobs but they both knew that if he was going to say something, he would say it to Yeosang. Yunho and Yeosang were closer with each other and Wooyoung and Hongjoong were closer.

About 30 minutes later, Yunho’s loud sobs turned into quieter ones and he was lying on the sofa with his head on Yeosang’s knees as Yeosang stroked his hair.

Yeosang: Are you ready to tell us yet?

Yunho sniffed before sitting up and hugging his knees. Tears were still falling from his eyes but he cried silently.

Yunho: My parents…

The boys all straightened in their seats as soon as they heard Yunho. They all knew that he hasn’t got the best relationship with his parents. They often heard him shouting to them on the phone.

Yeosang: What did they do?

Yunho: They…

Hongjoong: *gasp* They didn’t!

Seonghwa: What?

Yunho nodded his head and his closest friends gasped.

Mingi: What did they do?

Wooyoung: After all these years of threatening you about it… they actually did it?

Jongho: What’s going on?

Yunho: They’re forcing me to get married

Seonghwa: They can’t do that! That’s unfair!

Yunho: I can’t do anything about it

Mingi: Surely you can do SOMETHING. I mean, you can obviously tell you don’t want to! You’re their son!

Yunho: A son whom they hate because of my sexuality

Jongho: That’s unfair!

Yeosang: The only way he can get out of it is by having a boyfriend or girlfriend. If he doesn’t have either of those, he gets married

Jongho: That’s so unfair!

Seonghwa: What if I pretend to be your boyfriend?

Yunho: They know all of my friends. They know that they have boyfriends

Jongho: What can we do then?

Mingi: Me

Yunho: *sniff* What?

Mingi: Do they know me?

Yunho: No

Mingi: Then I can pretend to be your boyfriend

Yunho: I can’t ask you to do that. You’re sick of me already

Mingi: I’m serious

Hongjoong: Yunho, this may be the only way to get out of it

Yunho: Do you know how much it would hurt me?

Wooyoung: What do you mean?

Yunho: You all know I have feelings for Mingi. I make it so fucking obvious! If Mingi pretends to be my boyfriend, I’m only going to want it to be a reality and then I’ll get my heartbroken when Mingi says he’s straight!

Yunho was on his feet and shouting at this point. Once he had finished, he ran to his room and slammed the door.

Seonghwa: Shouldn’t one of us go check up on him?

Hongjoong: Leave him for a bit. He’d rather be by himself whilst he’s angry

The boys all sighed as they could only think about how they could help him. After about 10 minutes, the boys all looked around at each other.

Yeosang: If one of us go in, who will he not kill?

Wooyoung: I vote Jongho

Hongjoong: Me too. He wouldn’t hurt our maknae

Jongho: Me? But I’m not good with emotional people!

Yeosang: Baby please~

Jongho: Suddenly I’m amazing with emotional people!

Jongho stood up from his seat and walked up to Yunho’s room. He didn’t knock on the door so when he entered, he saw something that no person wished to see.

Jongho: Yunho! What are you doing?!

The boys all rushed to Jongho’s side and they all stopped in shock. The first person to go up to him was Yeosang. He quickly took the blade out of his hands and wrapped a random shirt around Yunho’s wrist.

Yunho’s eyes were filled with no emotional when Yeosang wrapped him in another hug.

Yeosang: Why? Why would you do this? You promised me that you would never do it again! Why did you break that promise?!

Wooyoung was next to walk over. He also wrapped Yunho in a hug but from behind. Hongjoong then wrapped his arms around all of them. They were all crying until they felt Yunho shaking. They pulled away in confusion but immediately panicked when they saw Yunho struggling to breathe.

Jongho: What’s wrong with him?! Why can’t he breathe?! Hyung please breathe!

Yeosang: Babe, calm down. He’s having a panic attack

Mingi quickly ran to his room and came back with a pill. He ran over to Yunho and put it in his mouth.

Mingi: Swallow this and count back from 100. 100…99…98…

Yunho: 97…96…95…94

Yunho’s breathing went back to normal but he was still shaking. Mingi was hesitant but hugged Yunho who slowly wrapped his arms around his back. Mingi didn’t care about the blood that was staining his shirt. All that mattered was Yunho, even if Mingi was straight.
