ANNABETH POV

Ugh. I just wanna kick Rachel out of here. I can't believe she flirted with Percy right in front of everyone. And can't Percy see I'm practically begging for him to ask me on a date? I doesn't matter. He will probably ask out Calypso. She was one of the nice populars and would probably love a date with him.

I looked over at Percy. He wasn't looking at me since he was talking to Jason.

"Hey man you're trying out for basketball and swim team? So am I!" Jason smiled at Percy. "I was choosing between swimming and football, but I guess I'll do swimming. It's nice to be with a friend."

"Yeah man. Back at my old school, I was on the swim team and none of my friends were on it. I mean considering I only had one friend..." Percy looked away. 

I was only half paying attention to the boy's conversation. Leo, Travis, and Connor were talking about some prank they are planning on Ms. Dodds. I am ashamed to say I'm actually happy about it. Nico and Will sat at the end of the table talking. We all knew they were destined to be a couple. It would only be a matter of time before they realized their feelings for each other. And me? Well, I was talking to Piper, Thalia, and Katie. We were talking about the Fall Ball that was being held in our school. It was only 2 days away! 

Piper was going with Jason.

Katie was going with Travis. 

Thalia said she wanted to solo the dance.

That only left me. I had only ever dated Luke, but that only lasted for a week before I found out about the true him. He was verbally abusive. He would insult me, the way I dress, and my intelligence. And, to top it all off he didn't even care when I broke up with him. He just went right on to date Rachel. They didn't last very long.

"So Annabeth?" Piper looked at me with a twinkle in her eye. "Who are you going to the Fall Ball with?"

"OH I dont know yet" I sighed and glanced over at Percy, hoping that the girls didnt notice.

"Come on Annabeth! You can just solo it like me. We can go together as friends?" THalia offered.

"Thanks, but no thanks Thalia. I wanna be swept off my feet and have the time of m life at the dance WITH A DATE." I said, hoping Percy heard the last part. WHen I glanced over, he didn't seem to have heard me. I sighed and looked back down at my half-eaten lunch.

PERCY POV

Okay dont tell the others, but I think I like Jason best. He's chill and we have the same interests. Tomorrow was the swim team tryouts so I gotta be prepared. My old friend Grover always told me I was great at swimming, but I think I'm average. I gotta step up my game if I wanna get in.

"How is it possible that you only had one friend?" Jason looked at me in confusion. "I mean you seem like a very likeable guy."

"Thanks man, but I dont want to talk about it."

"...WITH A DATE" I heard Annabeth telling the girls. I looked over at her. She was sitting next to me, so how was it that I missed their conversation. I looked down and felt a presence of eyes on me. I looked towards Annabeth, but she was looking down at her half-eaten lunch. I guess it was a teacher looking at me. The new kid is always suspicious.
