The room is cold and dark, my shoulders shiver as a chill runs down my spine, as I move my arms they tense with pain.
I open my eyes slowly, looking up I see my hands chained above my head. I can feel the blood draining from my fingers.
My head feels heavy, it lulls down and rests on my shoulder as I wince my eyes at the uncomfortable sensation forming in my arms.
As I bow my head, I see Spencer, he is handcuffed to a chair in front of me, he looks up to see me, he doesn't say anything, his face filled with fear.
His gaze changes from me to over my shoulder.
James moves from the doorway to stand between us, he walks slowly and confidently. His gaze rests on Spencer, causing him to take a large gulp before speaking.
"What do you want?" Spencer hisses, staring him directly in the eyes.
"Where is she?" he says aggressively, taking a step towards Spencer.
"Who?"
James' mannerisms changed at the question; his shoulders sagged as his posture changed slightly.
He took a small step back from Spencer and his gaze drifted from Spencer's eyes.
For a second he was reminded of why he had caused all this pain, his emotions could easily be mistaken for aggression, but deep down it was an intoxicating mix of love and loss.
He took a deep breath, and he coughed.
The sound echoed in the emptiness of the room.
"My daughter, where is she?"
"I don't know?" Spencer's answer was not the one James was looking for. The look in his eye changed from sorrow to anger as he turned away from Spencer to look at me.
He stared me directly in the eye before taking his hand to my cheek, he was gentle at first and his hands were cold against my skin.
He retracted his hand and slammed it down on my cheek.
The sound echoed through the room as my skin began to sting, bringing his hand back to my face grabbing my jaw in his hand, moving closer to me so that I could feel his warm breath on my face,
"why don't you tell your little friend where my daughter is and I'll let you go."
As he spoke his words spat in my face. "we don't know" I replied quietly but with an aggressive undertone.
His hand was still gripping my face tightly, "don't talk to each other, you'll make it worse."
He said placing another hard slap on my cheek and turning to leave.
Another man came in, he had fewer reservations than James.
He turned quickly to me, taking his knee to my stomach and kicking me, forcing the air out of my lungs, my lungs began to burn from the force and I coughed and tugged on the chains above my head.
"Stop please- we don't know where she is okay- just don't hurt her" Spencer was shouting, his voice was different from any I had heard before, it was the sound of true abrasive anger.
I could only see Spencer for a few seconds between the blows to my chest, our eye contact lingered, the desperate pain and aggression in his eyes caused a single tear to fall down his cheek.
The pain built in my stomach, I felt the bitter taste of blood in my mouth, I winced, screwing my eyes uptight.
The heavy breathing of the man drowned out the whimpers of Spencer, as he continued to beat me.
The sound of rain outside brought me a sweet relief, I listened to the sounds of the rain hitting the tin roof, trying to ignore the aggressive beating, I closed my eyes focusing on the relaxing tones of the water.
I took a deep breath and drowned out everything else, the pain ripping through me was somewhat soothed by the sound of the rain.
