I still couldn't believe that Niall wanted to take up this case. We didn't even know for sure if this even was a case! We had one mission: Get the book that possibly can start the apocalypse if fallen into wrong hands to Remiel so he could safely deliver it to heaven. Then we could go back to our normal lives- though I think normal will never be the same anymore. But the important thing was that Niall was slowing down the process by taking up cases that he could clearly call someone else to do, and we were more vulnerable to whatever danger could be after us. We already had a bunch of weight on our shoulders, and we didn't need any extra gain. It got me pretty mad, but there was really nothing I could do. Niall was the one to call the shots since he knew more about this than me. But right now he just seemed like a little kid lighting up at the sight of new toys as we went along the way. I really hoped that he would open up his eyes and understand what was most important at the moment.
Niall and I booked us into a motel for the night to look into this case. Niall hit the police reports we borrowed from the station. I haven't gotten up to the werewolf section of Bobby's journal, so I started there. There were a lot of things written here, but nothing on any werewolves inhabiting Rockcastle. At least there was enough information to fill my knowledge about them.
"Anything?" Niall asked me after an hour of research.
"Nothing," I said. "Except for the part with the ripping the heart out. You?"
"Nada," he said. "I suggest we go to the crime scene and explore."
Niall and I went to put on our FBI attire and took our fake IDs. We hopped into his car and drove off to the crime scene. The sun was getting closer to the west, and soon the sun would begin to cast shadows on the pavement. When we got to the park I saw cop cars parked on the curb, and none other but the police themselves, leaning against their cars with a coffee in their hands. We went to the one closest to the yellow police tape. His tag read Johnson. He looked like he was somewhere around his late twenties, with jet black hair and pale skin. He was attractive for his age, but nothing I would find mesmerizing.
"Hello," Niall said in his American accent. "I'm agent Gray, and this is my partner, agent Wood." Damn, that was hot. "We're from the FBI, do you mind if we take a look?"
"Not at all," officer Johnson said. "I didn't know the FBI looked into this kind of stuff."
"What do you mean?"
"From what we uncovered it just looks like a wild animal. I mean, who have you heard of that walks around ripping people's hearts right out of their chest?" He looked straight at me when he talked like he was admiring my face. But what was there to admire? His hazel eyes looked me up and down quickly and then a small smirk appeared on his lips.
"Well, we're just checking out of interest," Niall said. I noticed a hint of annoyance in his voice, and when I looked over at him I saw he was glaring at officer Johnson, who was still looking at me like a boy who just opened a playboy for the first time. Though I don't think I should really compare myself to a porn magazine. It seemed as though Niall was getting defensive, but maybe I was just imagining things.
"Okay, go ahead. I won't keep you."
Niall and I stepped under the yellow police tape and walked around as we examined the crime scene. There was a big, dark stain on the grass, suggesting where the bodies were found earlier. That was the first thing that caught my eye. There was nothing else there that was of any use. I saw Niall kneeling on the grass and holding something in a gloved hand. He showed it to me when he stood up and put it in a small evidence bag. From what I could tell it was a tuft of fur, only making the possibility that it was not a human even bigger. After another ten minutes examining the area, we found nothing else and decided to head back to the car. When I was about to get into the passenger seat, I felt a hand on my shoulder. When I turned around I saw officer Johnson standing behind me, a smile plastered on his face.
