"It's about time, Benny; my clothes are going out of style!"

It had been a few days since we had arrived in The Valley, all of the boxes from our car were unloaded and the movers still hadn't come.Mom had taken me to the paint store, I picked out a few colors. A dusty blue and white some things that I hoped would look good. My bed still hadn't been delivered so I was sleeping on an air mattress.
My back was pretty sore from sleeping on a deflated balloon for three nights, but overall Rose Park isn't horrible. It was living up to a little bit better, now that I had met Benny maybe this isn't going to be such a horrible experience.
---I walked downstairs seeing Mom cooking breakfast, eggs and toast were her go-to.
"Cooking breakfast?" I asked, leaning on the bar.
"Mhm, hey someone dropped that off for you," She pointed to a baseball that read "Meet me at the sandlot at 10 O'clock,"
"Mom, what time is it?"
"9:30, why?"
"No reason," I shrugged me shoulders and sat down on the bar, she gave me a plate while we talked about how school was gonna go. It started this month and I still hadn't seen it.
I finished eating breakfast and went upstairs to change. I put on a red crop-top with mom jeans and my converse.
"Mom I'll be back soon"
"Got it, check in at noon"
"Wont forget it," I walked out the front door, and down town to the baseball field. Still passing the same shops and families from yesterday, I had made it to the park.
I caught Benny's' eye, "Benny, that's your name...right?" I asked him.
"He came running towards me," Its actually Ricky..."
"Oh my god- I'm so sorry, I thought they were yelling Benny from the field the last time I was here...".I kept rambling, did I really mess up his name that bad?
"Amber, no your right. I'm just playin' with ya" He really just said that-
"Oh," I gave him a look ,"Actually my names Rebecca"
"Really?" He said in a jokingly sarcastic tone.
We both laughed it off and headed to the field, "Question, how did you find my address in order to send this to me," I pulled out the ball from my backpack and showed him.
"My friends may or may not of watched you go home the other day..."
Creepy.
"Not in a weird way, right?" I asked.
"No- not like that l. I just wanted to see you again"
"Well I wanted to see you again too." My face blushed as we continued walking. We had gotten to the field, it was empty.
"Where is everyone?"
"Good question" We both looked at each other when a group of boys came running out behind a fence.
"Well hello there little lady," A small boy gave me a smirk.
"And why hello there little boy," He gave me a shocked look as if he just processed what I had said, "Anything wrong?"
"Nope," he gave me a quick answer and his behind a larger boy.
Benny laughed, as the rest of the boys did, "We're just about to start a game , wanna join?"
"Thanks for the offer but I dont really know how to play..." I looked down at my shoe and started picking at my fingers.
"You dont know how to play?"
"Not really, my mom never got me into it..."
"Not a problem just be cautious," He put on his glove and started making teams. He put me out in the outfield knowing I knew absolutley nothing about anything that was happening.
"Alright boys, who ever gets to 10 runs wins, got it?" he made eyes contact with me, "And Amber."
First inning started, balls were flying everywhere. Me and a fewnither boys running after them trying to throw them to the pitcher.
"Nice throw Amber with an arm like that I wouldn't be surprised if you actaully played on a team"
"Thanks Benny" both our faces became flushed.
For the second inning I was up for batting, this wasn't my best moment.
Benny let me use his bat, it was wood with a blue string at the base and benny printed large on the side."Amber, I'll go easy on ya'" Kenny was pitching, I wouldn't say fat but he was surely larg-er? Definitely had an attitude, but if I can just hit the ball then everything will be fine.
The ball was thrown, up it went and straight across the plate, "STRIKE ONE" One of the boys yelled.
Again, the ball was released. I followed it with by eyes and it went across the plate, "STRIKE TWO"
One more the ball was released, I followed it with my eye and I hit the ball... I dropped the bat and ran, I ran to first seeing Benny pointing to second, then again I ran. Him Pointing again, and again I ran. I hit home base... did I just do that?
"Amber... are you sure you haven't played. You literally hit a home run," Benny cheered as I made it back to him.
"Absolutely positive," I smiled, I had just remembered, be back by noon. Shoot! I had totally forgotten.
"Benny what time is it?" I said in a panicked tone.
He looked at his wrist watch, "uhh, 12:30"
"Crap, I totally forgot I gotta check in with my mom, she said be back by noon . I gotta go, promise I'll be back"
"Wait Ambe-" I cut him off running home, "Amber!"
I turned around, "Catch this," he threw me a baseball. I caught it and placed it in my pocket.
"I'll be back, promise"
