"Babyyy," Uenoyama pouted, "Where are we going?"
"You'll see," Mafuyu said, his enthusiastic tone putting a smile on Uenoyama's features.
"It better be worth the walk."
"It is, don't worry."
Mafuyu mused for a moment, "Well to me it is, it might not be to you though. Haha it's not that important honestly, sorry for the wa—"
"Baby, you're rambling. I was just joking," Uenoyama scolded.
The faint cloud of awkwardness swiftly lightened, Mafuyu giggling.
"Oh, Ue-kun, I never asked."
"Hm?"
"What do you want me to call you?"
"Uhh,"
"Baby? Angel? Bunny?"
"I'm—the—his—what?" Uenoyama stuttered, turning bright red.
pls why does this sound so cringy 😭
Mafuyu just continued dragging Uenoyama by the hand.
"Anything is fine, I guess—"
Mafuyu giggled, replying quickly, and turned back to focusing on where they were going.
They walked (Uenoyama, reluctantly) in silence.
After what seemed like an hour, they reached a hilly area, a blanket spread out with fairy lights hanging from the trees.
"Did you plan all of this?" Uenoyama inquired.
"Yeah," Mafuyu gestured for him to sit down.; Uenoyama obeyed.
"Since it's Valentine's Day, I wanted to do something special," he paused, flattening his hair over his eyes, "Me and Yuki never actually spent Valentine's Day together, because he was performing.."
Uenoyama placed lifted his hand from the soft blanket beneath them, and placed it on Mafuyu's.
"I'm glad you decided to plan this,"
Uenoyama reached for the other blanket at their feet, and enveloped themselves with it.
The sun was already setting, sinking into a low garden of hills.
The stars twinkled faintly, reflecting against Mafuyu's watery pupils, looking even prettier igniting his amber eyes.
"I love you - when we sat under the stars on our bed and I thought they looked prettier reflected in your eyes," anyone?
"Mafuyu.."
As Mafuyu looked bewildered, gazing up at the star-splattered sky, Turning himself to face Mafuyu, he observed him dreamily.
A gentle breeze fluttered their hair, bringing a mood Mafuyu wasn't too familiar with, but the butterflies in his stomach, the pace of his heart beat, and the warmth of his hands signified that he liked it.
All other care was left behind with a glance when Mafuyu stared into his eyes. A fond, searching look in Uenoyama's navy blue pupils, moon reflecting off his iris like water.
Similarly, the moon drowned Mafuyu in a pearl white light, cheeks pink with either the cold, or flushed at the way Uenoyama looked at him.
"Mafuyu,"
Mafuyu almost swooned at the delicate sigh of his words.
"Mafuyu, I've been in love with you ever since I met you. At first, you were an cute, annoying brat who didn't know a thing about something that meant to you,"
"Hey! Are you complimenting me or insulting me? Isn't this supposed to be romantic?" Mafuyu whined.
"Shut up and just listen, dumbass!" Uenoyama's lower lip jutted slightly forward, turning into a small pout.
"Anyways, I'm gonna be straight up here—"
"Don't you mean gay up?"
"Mafuyu, I swear to go—"
"Okay, okay, continue," Mafuyu laughed.
"As I was saying, you were a cute annoying brat who didn't get lost. But that day, when I heard you sing, it was like—uh—it was like I wanted to run and hide, and listen at the same time.
"That day you talked about Yuki, I knew then, I was definitely jealous; before you speak, yes I was still awake, and no, we will never talk about this again."
"Okay, your highness,"
This time, Uenoyama chuckled too, as he continued.
"Well, I guess you could say I didn't want to hear a song about you being in love with someone else. And so I took my frustration out on you, y'know?
"I still can't believe you were jealous,"
"Mafuyu, I will back out of this."
"No you won't, you're too in love with me."
"Ugh, I know, but lemme continue at least."
"Alright alright, I won't interrupt unless it's something important."
"Okay, so as I was saying before someone so rudely interrupted me—"
"M-Mafuyu?"
Mafuyu stiffened. It couldn't be. No, of course it wasn't. He was just hallucinating. But why now? When Uenoyama, his boy, was right in front of him?
But from the way Uenoyama stared straight behind him, stone-faced, he knew he wasn't the only one who had heard it.
Uenoyama had seen one or two pictures of Mafuyu's late lover, but since the latter was clearly uncomfortable, he chose not to ask him about it.
But even one brief glance would be enough to recognize the blond-haired boy, slightly skinnier than what Mafuyu had remembered.
Mafuyu inhaled a sharp breath as his insides clenched and unclenches, chest strangely tight. Tears welled up in his eyes gently, as he forced himself to turn around and look straight up at the man towering over them.
