After a bit, the two of you stood up and headed to bed. Angel held you in his arms as you laid your head on his chest.
"Thank you, Angel."
"For what, bebita?"
"Protecting me. Loving me. You make me feel safer than I ever have."
"I'm glad I make you feel safe. You are safe with me. I'll always protect you and love you."
You snuggled closer and pressed a kiss to his chest.
"I love you, Angel. I will love you every day for the rest of my life."
"I love you too, cariño. I'll never stop loving you."
Angel rolled onto his side, facing you, and you rolled to face him. He pulled you as close as he could get you, wrapping you up in his arms. Your head was tucked under his chin, and one arm was wrapped around his waist. There was no space between you. You felt a single tear run down your cheek. You felt so much love in his arms that it was overwhelming.
"Bebita?"
"I'm ok. I just love you so much, and I've never been so happy."
"I love you too, sweetheart. I hope I'll always make you this happy."
He pressed a kiss to the top of your head, then sighed in content and closed his eyes. The two of you fell asleep cuddled close.
When you woke up the next morning, you were still tucked up against Angel. You could tell he was awake by the rhythm of his breathing. You pressed a soft kiss to his chest.
"Buenos días, mi dulce."
"Buenos días, mi amor."
You laid there a little longer, before shifting to look at the clock. You needed to get up for work.
After showering and getting ready, including another shower quickie, you were out the door. Angel had to head to the scrapyard, so he kissed you and sent you on your way. You needed to make a stop at the HR department before your shift. You weren't looking forward to it, but it needed to be handled. Luckily, Tom was off today, so you wouldn't have to deal with him.
As you sat in the office of the HR manager, explaining the situation, you couldn't help but feel like something was going to happen. You just had this feeling of dread deep in your gut. You finished making the report and hurried back to the ER for your shift. You'd been working for about an hour when an ambulance came in fast.
"GSW. Hispanic male, late twenties. Two entry wounds, one exit."
You whipped your head around to look at the gurney and felt your legs give out. Angel was on it, oxygen mask on his face and an IV in his hand. He was unconscious.
You rushed over to help. They wheeled him right into an operating room, and got him prepped for surgery. You scrubbed in and got to work. An hour later, the bullet was out and he was stitched up. You stepped out to clean up and start paperwork. Since you weren't technically family, there was no legal concern for you working on him.
You headed out to the nurses' station. The paramedics had left, but the doctor was there, talking to a different nurse. She hadn't worked with you before, but her name was Lana and she seemed nice.
"We didn't find an ID or phone on him. We won't be able to fill out his paperwork until he wakes up."
You walked up to them. "His name is Angel Reyes. I can fill out his intake paperwork and call his next of kin to come down here."
The doctor looked at you, confused and shocked.
"How do you know that?"
"He's my boyfriend. Let me just call his father and brother, then I'll fill out enough to get him checked in. They can do the rest."
The doctor nodded at you as Lana just looked confused. Angel wasn't wearing his kutte when he came in, which means he was probably out on a pick up for the scrapyard. He should've had his phone and wallet, but maybe they were in the truck.
You pulled out your phone and called Felipe.
"Hey, Felipe, it's y/n. I'm working in the ER today, and they brought Angel in. He was shot. He's stable but unconscious. I need you to come down here. I'll call EZ. I need him to check something for me."
Once Felipe confirmed that he was on his way, you hung up and called EZ.
"Hey. Angel got shot. He's stable. Not sure where he was, but he didn't have his wallet, phone or kutte when he came in. I called your Pop. He's on his way down, and I've filled out enough of the paperwork to get him checked in."
EZ told you that Angel was out doing a pick up, so his kutte was at the clubhouse. He said he'd go by the site and look for his phone and wallet. They'd need to get the truck anyway. Once he did that, he'd be down.
You got his intake paperwork filled out, and helped move him to a room. He was still unconscious. You went back to work, watching for Felipe.
You were at the nurses' station filling out a chart when a mass of black leather flooded the waiting area. Lana gasped, and looked nervous. You looked at her, confused, before looking up. EZ was in the front, and made it to the desk first.
She spoke first, with a shaky voice. "How can I help you?"
EZ looked at you. "Shorty, where is he?"
"Same room you were. Let's not make it a hat trick for Reyes men, please."
EZ nodded and turned to go into the room. Felipe was already in there. He'd shown up about 10 minutes before, and was sitting with Angel while he filled out paperwork.
Lana looked at you, shocked. Since Angel hadn't been wearing his kutte, she wouldn't have known he was a Mayan.
"Should I call security down? There are a lot of Mayans in here. We can't have them causing trouble."
"They won't. No need for security. Nobody is in danger."
"Hey, Shorty. What the fuck happened?"
"Coco," you said with relief in your voice. You needed your best friend. "I don't know. He came in with 2 shots. He had to have surgery to remove one bullet. He's not awake yet." Bishop and Hank had walked over while you were talking to Coco, so they heard you too.
"Hey, Bish. Do you know if EZ found his phone and wallet?"
"Yeah, he has them. I'll have him give them to you before we leave."
You just nodded, before standing up.
"I gotta make my rounds. Only a couple of you can go in at a time. Felipe is in there right now, too."
Lana stood to do rounds with you. When you'd gotten a little ways away from the guys, she whispered to you. "You know Mayans?"
"Yeah."
"Is your boyfriend one too?"
"He is."
"They seem a lot nicer than everyone says they are."
"They're good guys. They won't hurt you."
"Would it be totally out of line to say that the one you called Coco is super hot?"
You chuckled at that. "Totally not out of line. I can introduce you. He's my best friend."
She blushed and nodded.
