Chase woke up with a sigh. He had just had an awesome dream. If only he could remember it. "It always happens," he thought to himself. Of course that didn't diminish his want to find out what the dream was. No matter how much he tried though, he couldn't think of it.
Instead, he shrugged it off and continued in his daily routine. He got out of his bed and went straight to the bathroom. An odd feeling trickled down his spine though. He looked around the room to find nothing particularly odd. The atmosphere seemed unfamiliar though. It was as if he never really was there to begin with. The thought seemed odd to him, so he shrugged it off and continued his routine.
In the bathroom, he brushed, flossed, and picked at his teeth. He combed his hair to the side, and then just shook it crazily. He liked making his hair messy. Chase had no one to impress so his look was normally off. His hair was long enough to cover his ears, and he liked it that way.
He walked out of the bathroom smelling fresh and ready. Something was still off though. His navy blue room radiated a feeling of mystery. Once again Chase didn't care. He clearly knew his way around, so of course he had been here before.
As he headed down the stairs to the kitchen, Chase caught eye of Hector, his grandfather. Hector was too overprotective in Chase's eyes. It had always been that way. Hector always checked on what Chase was doing twenty-four seven. It beat him down, but Chase managed. He had in the past. He lived with his grandfather for as far as he could remember, so he called him by his first name, Hector.
He past Hector with a smile on his face. Hector always loved a warm grin in the morning because it really made his mornings better. He was in his early nineties and needed something to keep him from anything that could result in something bad. He already had bad heart problems, so he stayed at the house. It provided a calm environment only he could live in.
"Breakfast is going to be large today," thought Chase as his stomach growled. He knew exactly what he was going to get to eat. Pastries.
Chase had a sweet tooth for pastries beyond comprehension. He could eat them anytime of the day. The boy had the ability to eat them all in one sitting. Chase loved the delectable sweetness that came when you tear at it. But his personal favorite pastry was a Pop Tart. There was no one on Abkar that could stop Chase from getting his hands on one.
He ate five Pop Tarts. All of different flavors. One cherry, one strawberry, one mixed berry, one blueberry, and one brown cinnamon. He stuffed them in his mouth and walked out the kitchen with a grin of satisfaction. "What day is it," he thought to himself as he climbed back to his room. He had no idea, and as he grabbed his phone to look at the time, his mom beat him.
"Chase," she yelled. "You were supposed to be catching the bus ten minutes ago."
"For what?"
"School! Just because spring break is next week doesn't mean you can just take another week of free time. Get going, you're hoofing it today."
---------------------------------------------
Sure enough, Chase was late for school. He didn't even know he had school, and didn't exactly want to have it. And the worst part was "hoofing it" with five Pop Tarts in his stomach. By the time he got on the campus, he was dry-heaving his way to the death.
He managed to get to homeroom in time. And by on time, he meant fifteen minutes after the first bell. Chase got a free pass because his mom gave him a note saying he had a faulty alarm clock. Of course Mrs. Thomas, the homeroom teacher, knew it was fake, but didn't care in the least.
That was one thing Chase like about his high school, St Benjamin. The teachers were really lax about everything. Chase even managed to sneak his way into Mr. Neteutith science class. Mr. N, as everyone called him, saw him come in on his tip-toes and stopped teaching so that everyone could laugh. Mr. N was by far the best teacher.
