Stranger danger wasn't on Chase's mind as he walked into the woman's house. All he cared about was getting to know how the heck this woman could be connected to him. Chloe was interested in getting away from whatever could be watching her. George, however, cared nothing about anything except something to eat. Normally, he would be home eating a whole bunch of snacks that could make up a meal.
The house seemed like your classic grandma house. It had a smell of perfume that was a lot like roses and vanilla. The walls were all pink, yellow, or light green. It annoyed George how everything seemed so light and flowery. But to him the colors also meant this woman would probably be serving cookies.
She invited them towards the kitchen and told them to sit at a table. The woman then went to the fridge and said, "My name is Lily Greyson. Don't be afraid if that's what you're thinking."
Chloe quickly responded, "No it's all fine. I appreciate your generosity." She said that as Lily gave them a plate with three 6-inch subs in front of them. George looked somewhat depressed that he didn't get cookies, but instead of staying still and complaining, he dove into one of the sandwiches.
"So Ms. Greyson, have you been to Harrison before this?" asked Chase. He was curious to no how Ms. Greyson felt familiar.
"Yes, I have been here before." she answered. Ms. Greyson was coming back with apple juice that George gladly excepted. "I used to work in the bigger part of the city. I was transferred for a while and worked as an ambassador here for two weeks."
"Why did you come here then?"
"Well I liked it here and when I retired, I decided to live here. I just love this city."
Trying to not sound nosey, he decided to take a bite of his sandwich. George was already done with his sandwich by the time Chase took his first bite. Chloe too was done. Ms. Greyson decided to bring in a plate of chocolate cookies and George went ecstatic. "Ms. Greyson, you are the best neighbor ever," he said with a cookie already in his mouth.
"Your welcome, honey."
After a sip of Apple juice, Chase asked, "Do you know Martha McKay or Hector McKay?" He was hoping he wasn't acting too nosey.
"So you must be Chase. Hector told me of you at my welcome party. They told me you were quite the fine boy. But if you want to know if I have known them before I came to live here, then your out of luck. I never knew them before it. By the way, who are you fine two kids who seem to be wolfing down my offerings."
George was caught mid bite. He had taken Chase's sandwich while he was listening to Ms. Greyson. "My name is George Sanders," he said with a piece of sandwich in his mouth.
"My name is Chloe Grace," she replied.
"I don't remember hearing of your parents at my welcoming party," she said. In reality, she seemed more nosey then Chase, who was listening intently for any clue that could trigger a memory.
"Well my parents are out of town this week," answered Chloe.
"My mom was busy last night with work and stuff and my dad doesn't care for anything. He kind of hates my guts, but my mom is being enforced to support for us," George said. He didn't seem very sad saying that though.
"I'm sorry to here that. Why haven't you done anything about it," she asked.
"Well, it was already taken to court, and the judge said that the issue is something the family can deal with. He said since my dad didn't do anything illegal; he was free to go."
"I hope you guys can sort something out," she answered.
Chase was confused though. There was no way he could have met this woman. "Maybe there was something inside the house that could clue him in," he thought.
He was thinking on how he could get somewhere else in the house. He was mid-thought when he felt his phone vibrate. Chase took it out and read the text. He was worried now.
"Well Ms. Greyson, thank you so much for the snacks. We'll be off then." Chloe, who was ready to go back home, agreed. George, however, was a different story.
Chase practically had to drag George out of the house. "Come on George. You can visit another time."
Stomach full and nearly in tears, George walked out and was happy Chase said that. He really liked the cookies and the sandwiches.
---------------------------------------------
As Chase approached his house, he was scared of what was next. He looked back at his phone where it said, "GET HOME NOW! NO ONE SAID YOU COULD STAY OUT THIS LONG WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE!" He put his key in the front door and as he opened he thought to himself, "Was the caps lock really necessary?"
Sure enough, he was met by one pretty pissed grandpa. "Hey grandpa, how you doing?" he said, trying to act casual.
"Save the act, Chase. I want to know where you were, when, and with who," Hector grumbled.
"I was at Ms. Greyson, the new neighbor's, house. It was George, Chloe, Ms. Greyson, and me. We were there when we normally would pass that house on our way home," answered Chase.
"You should have told me," he exclaimed. "I don't exactly trust my grandson being there, no matter how nice she it. Your punishment shall be."
He was cut off by Chase pleading, "Punishment! Are you joking me! I went to go welcome a new neighbor!"
Now it was Hector's turn to cut him off. "Without my permission. I don't think you added that part."
"Why do you have to be such a grinch? You're way to overprotective."
"I'll show you how protective I can be then, because I'm sure you enjoy it a lot. Lets see. You are no longer allowed at Ms. Greyson's house and for now on you'll ride the bus home."
"What are you joking me?" Chase didn't care much for the ride home, but how was he supposed to figure out his connection with Ms. Greyson if he couldn't go see her.
"No go to your room," Hector finished.
"Fine."
Chase stumped up the stairs. He was mad at everything. "Looks like everything is the same as last night," he thought to himself as he kicked his shoes off. He didn't care to shower. No matter how much dirt was on him, he just wasn't that night.
Tired and angry, Chase started to think. He thought of how he would get inside that house. His mind was already onto sneaking inside. Ms. Greyson was obviously slow and weak, so getting in and out without getting caught would be a breeze.
Before he drifted off to sleep, he could have sworn he heard a voice. It was the voice of a young girl. The age had to be before teenage years, when the voice is still high. The girl seemed to tell him, "Glad your awake again Cap."
