when i picked harry up from the russells home, i also dropped off arvin who was going to pack a bag of clothes to give me for whenever he would come over and spend the night or if he needed anything while he was over at my house.

when i first arrived at the russells, i hopped out of the car as harry ran up to us, he jumped into my arms and started talking my ear off as lenora caught up to us. when he stopped talking i told him to wait in the car and shared a few stories about harry and arvin with lenora while i waited for arvin to come back out with his bag of things.

he had a dufflebag, which was funny because i didn't even think arvin owned that much stuff, but he still handed it to me with a smile and I threw it in the back of my truck. i shared a quick goodbye with lenora and as she walked back towards the house i got to say goodbye to arvin, christmas eve was approaching in two days so i told him i would see him then since i had shifts at the diner and i'd be busy up until then. he only nodded and promised he'd see me soon before pulling me into him and smashing his lips onto mine, i smiled into the kiss and it continued until we needed air and lenora screamed at him to stop sucking my face off, and finally, we said our goodbyes and headed to our respected homes.

when i got home with harry, he instantly went to the tree that had newly wrapped presents for him under it. he was shocked when on more than one gift it said to: harry from: arvin, i knew harry would want to include arvin into anything, so i let arvin take some credit on a few small gifts, and of course, at the way back of the tree, sat arvins ring i had got him, my stomach churned at the thought of giving it to him but i ignored it and sat down at the table with harry as he shared a comic he had made at lenoras.

"hey sissy? are you going to marry arvin someday?"

i almost spit out my drink, coughing and clearing my throat to get the stinging to go down, harry looked at me confused but i just shook it off before answering him.

"um...i do not know, why?"

"well lenora said that people date and then get married and that people who are dating kiss each other and stuff like that and that's what you and arvin do right? so, are you going to marry him now?"

i chuckled out a sigh and shook my head, looking at the severely confused 12 year old that was sitting next to me, he had no clue about anything that had to do with arvin and i yet and even worse, now lenora's got him thinking about dating? great.

"harry, one, stop listening to lenora and two, arvin and i are not dating, we like each other, yes, but, dating people means taking them on dates and spending everyday with them and slowly falling in love with them to the point where you 100% know you want to marry them and you sir are too young to be thinking about any of that because you're not allowed to date until you're thirty!"

harry rolled his eyes and flipped the page in his comic book.

"you're almost 19 and get to date...why can't i?"

see now that, i didn't have an answer for, so, i blew it off and instead asked him what he wanted for dinner, since it would be our last night eating together before christmas eve rolled around. we decided on just eating some leftovers, knowing both of us were too tired for anything else.

"you know, you should ask arvin out, or he should ask you out, then he would be my brother for real!"

i smiled, happy to know that harry felt like he could trust arvin. knowing that harry was starting to open up to people was good, giving the fact that he never opened up to anyone and he only ever hung out with me. to think about it, he's arvin but just...without the fighting.

"that would be cool, maybe i'll ask him...but for now, sleep time."

i tucked harry in and turned off his light, kissing his head and making my way out of the room and down the hall to check and make sure everything in the house was locked up and good. when i went to close the front door, there was a small paper taped to the door with my name on it. my heart raced, i tried to look around to see if anyone was there, but i couldn't see anything, so i quickly shut the door and went to the couch to read the note.

dear natalia,

i know writing notes is really cheesy when i can just call you or even just go to your house, i know you wouldn't care too much.

look, i wanted to start off your holiday season right, so, if you would want too join me tomorrow after you're done at the diner, lenora already said she'd watch harry for you, i wanted to know if you would accompany me to a dance, i know it's not really your kind of thing but my daddy took my momma to the dance every year and you'll get off just in time for it, so, if you're interested, call me tomorrow, I'll pick you up at 8.

(p.s: your dress is in your closet on the right.)

my heart stopped and my mouth started to hurt from smiling, but, i still squealed quietly to myself and rushed to my room to see where in the world arvin could have snuck in a ball gown into my room and my closet.

and there it was, a dark red dress that looked like a princess dress, one of those that girls only dreamed of having, it was perfect. i grabbed it, hanging it up on my dresser door and getting everything ready for tomorrow before closing my door and hopping on my bed with a smile spread across my face.

what was this boy doing to me.
