The first thing Wanda saw was a woman, playing with her children.

James refused to interfere.
Wanda gazed in awe at the artwork that lay in front of her.

Wanda flipped the page.

"See this one, was of a woman, at a pub in Ireland. She would put on every piece of jewelry she owned, just waiting for her long lost love."

James explained to Wanda when she saw the portrait.

"Well I must say James, you have a gift." Wanda paused for a moment.

"You see people." She finished.

"I see you." There was another awkward pause as Wanda looked up from the book to look at James.
It was the first time she had really gotten a good look at him.

He had wonderful blue eyes that reminded Wanda of two beautiful diamonds.

With his hair swept to the side, Wanda couldn't help but think of him as handsome.

"And?" She smiled proudly.

"You wouldn't have jumped." He laughed.
Wanda laughed as well.

"But you still haven't answered my question Wanda. Do you love your fiancée or not?" He asked again.

Wanda wished she could tell him the truth, that she hated him, and wanted to be free.
And just in the nick of time, before she could answer, her mother appeared.

"Mother!" Wanda exclaimed, standing up to introduce her mother and her socialite friends to James.

"Wanda." Her mother replied sternly.

"This is Mr. Barnes, the man who saved my life yesterday." Wanda introduced.

The women observed the boy, dressed poorly, and very clearly from steerage.

"It's a pleasure to meet you." He smiled warmly.

The ladies just smiled.

The awkward moment was interrupted by the announcement that dinner would be served soon, which James would be attending as well.

"Why do they always have to announce dinner like a damn calvary?" One of the ladies exclaimed.

"Come along Wanda." Wanda's mother extended her hand.

"I'll see you at dinner, James." And with that, Wanda followed her mother to get prepared for dinner.

The question James had asked hung in the air, as he pondered what Wanda's response would have been. And as he pondered, he hardly even noticed one of the other ladies asking him a question.
