I ask Matt to drop me off at Daddy's Dairy Bar so I can pick up my car from the night before. He seems slightly concerned when I tell him that I had a bit to drink so Damon walked me home after hanging out on the beach after work. I laugh it off and tell him he was just being nice.
I jump in my car and turn it on so I can plug in my phone which died while I was still on the boat. There's a few texts from Ella letting me know she walked and fed Freddy and telling me I owe her because she had to pick up his poop, twice and only had one bag.
I listen to a voicemail from my mom, "hey sweetie I know we are supposed to be home tonight, but Auntie Kate is going to stay through the weekend and she brought the guy she's been seeing and him and your dad are getting along so well. I think they are planning on going golfing on the Cape tomorrow. Long story short, I put $200 in your checking account--have fun, we'll be home Sunday. Call if anything comes up. Love you bunches!"
"I love when my parents abandon me." I say sarcastically out loud to myself.
I'm about to leave when someone taps on my passenger side window. I jump and then realize it's Damon. I roll down the window.
"Why the hell are you so jumpy, Violet?" He asks.
"Why the hell are you creeping around my car in a dark parking lot, Damon?"
He laughs, "I was just picking up my check and I saw you sitting in your car."
"Oh, yeah I was just picking it up from the other night. I didn't see your car."
"Yeah, I have my mom's right now. We took her car to her Doctor's appointment, my car is too high up for her to get in and out of."
"Gotcha. How'd her appointment go? Everything good?"
"Yeah, yeah, so far so good." Damon nods. "Hey you wanna go get a coffee?"
"It's 10 at night, Damon. If I drink coffee now I will be up all night."
"You can stick to decaf. Come on, follow me. Pretty sure Mocha Mott's has their summer hours going."
I roll my eyes, "well alright I guess, but I want one of their scones too!"
"Who said I'm treating?" Damon laughs and gets into his mom's car.

We find some parking and order our coffee and then grab a seat outside. It is the perfect temperature out and there is a nice breeze.
"How was your day?" Damon asks.
"It was good, I spent the day on a friend's boat." I leave out that it was Matt's boat and I'm not completely sure why. I am not looking at this like a date, but I am also not really sure what I want to classify my relationship with Matt as either. Friends? Friends with benefits? Thankfully Damon doesn't press for details.
"Nice, not a bad way to spend the day." He smiles.
We talk for quite awhile. There is an easy flow and I am surprised at how natural we can just transition from one topic to another. He tells me about growing up on Martha's Vineyard and how the locals all seem to know everyone and everything about everybody. He tells me more about his brother Luke, who is three years older and is working on a PharmD degree at the University of Utah.
