It's just after noon when Sarah, Ella, and I stumble out of our makeshift beds in my living room. I'm making some coffee while Sarah cuts up some fruit and Ella fills up three bowls with Lucky Charms.
"Vi, can I ask you something?" Ella asks.
"Yeah, of course."
"Last night, when we were naked and stranded on the beach..."
"Ughhh, don't remind me!" Sarah grumbles.
Ella laughs, "What made you call Matty and not Damon?"
My brows furrow as I see where she is going with this.
"I mean, you had just seen Damon and you guys had that connection." She continues.
"Yeah, a k-i-s-s-i-n-g connection." Sarah teases.
I throw a dish towel at her.
"No seriously though. There must have been a reason you chose to call Matty."
I begin to twirl a loose strand of hair around my finger while I think. "I mean...I guess I knew Matty would come." I shrug.
"Hm." Ella purses her lips.
"What? What are you thinking?" I ask.
"It's interesting, that's all. Maybe telling. I mean look don't get me wrong, I love the bad boy, mysterious, older guy as much as the next girl. Maybe more." She laughs. "But, there is something right about you and Matt, and I think, even if it is not immediately apparent to you, somewhere in your brain, you know it too."
"Alright, well thank you for that psychoanalysis Dr. Ella, but it could also be that I chose Matt to call because I've known him since October and I've just met Damon. Plus, I don't think either of you would have appreciated being naked the first time you met him!."
"Truth." Sarah nods.

After breakfast, lunch? Lets call it brunch. After brunch Sarah and Ella leave. I shower and then pick up the house.
After finishing my mind begins to wander and overthink, and I'm realizing that Damon still hasn't called.
I pick up my phone and send him a snap, just a picture, no words. I'm not going to start getting all crazy and questioning why he didn't call when he said he would. Plus I'll see him tonight at work, I'm sure it's fine.
An hour later my phone buzzes and my body feels the buzz, until I pick up the phone and see that it's Matt that texted, not Damon.
'hey gorgeous. i got called into work tonight, wanna get a bite to eat after?'
'Hey! Sounds good, I just have to stop home and take Freddy out for a walk. You can come too if you want.'
'cool. see you later!'

When I get to work I realize why Matt was called in, Damon called out.
It's a busy Saturday night, so I really don't have time to dwell on it. When things slow down a little Angela and I take our break together.
"Hey, do you know why Damon called out?" I ask her.
"Gunther took the call, said Damon said it was some family thing. But, I think he was lying because I saw him in his car with some girl when I was on my way in. Looked like they were heading to the ferry." She shrugs.
