Chapter 5: Should We?

(Ein's POV)

Well, fuck! What am I gonna do now?! I finally get my dream job and it all goes to shit! The only safe place I know of is getting bombed! I look around and comb my hair back with my hand. I wish Aphmau was here... She'd probably say something wise... that everything will be alright. That's right. Everything's gonna be fine. I turn to Blaze.

"What now?" I ask hurriedly. He faces the forest with a determined look on his face.

"Now we make it out alive."

The dramatic bastard.

"Yeah, how though, smart ass?" He turns to look at me, obviously irritated.

"We'll have to go through the woods, obviously."

"Haha, you're funny. Through the woods. Do you know how dangerous that is?"

"Obviously. I had to make it here in the first place. It's not that bad."

"And why should I trust you? You tried to kidnap a kid."

"Oh my Irene. Are you seriously still hung up on that?"

"Yeah! Why the hell wouldn't I be?! Why should I believe that you aren't trying to kidnap me now?!"

"I mean, you were the one who told me to help you escape. I'm just doing what you told me to."

"I- Okay, you got me there..."

"Yeah, no shit."

"Okay, well, where would we be going exactly? Or are we supposed to stay in the woods?"

"Hah. You're funny. I'm not an animal. We're going to Falcon Claw. It's safer there than where we are right now."

"Wait, what's Falcon Claw?"

"I... Did you not study geography in primary school?"

"Just answer the damn question, Blaze."

"*sigh* It's the town where the werewolves live. It's really peaceful and the only times that it's not safe is when the humans attack. But when they do, we evacuate before they have the chance to cause any casualties."

"Wow, that... actually doesn't sound too bad. But... I'm a human."

"So?"

"I'm not a werewolf."

"Yeah, so?"

Wow, this guy is really dense. What do I have to do, spell it out for him? I sigh and walk past him. He doesn't follow me for some reason, though.

"Are you coming?" I ask him with a hint of sass.

"Dude, do you even know what you're doing? Those woods are dangerous nonetheless. There are monsters almost everywhere you look. Not all of them are bad, but a lot of them could sure as hell swallow you whole if they wanted to."

"Wait, then why did you suggest for us to go through there?!"

"Because it's way safer in there than staying here. Who knows what's gonna happen to this place. All I know is that Falcon Claw is much safer."

Shit, what do I do? I'm starting to have second thoughts about leaving. On one hand, Scaleswind is under attack and I'm a knight. I should be protecting my home. But on the other hand, I really don't feel like dying today. If I escape now, then I have a chance of surviving. I just have absolutely no idea what they'd do with me since I'm a human. Nobody knows what the werewolves do with the humans they kidnap. We can only assume the worst since they never come back.

"I... I don't know what to do..." I say at last.

"Come with me. Look, I know I haven't known you for very long, but you'll be much safer in Falcon Claw. Just... trust me, Ein."

"I..." I look at the hand he reached out to me, obviously wanting me to take it. I look back up at him. He has a soft smile spread across his face. I don't know what it is... but his presence is somewhat calming. I trust him. Or, at least enough to know he's not lying. I grab his hand and smile back.

"Okay. I trust you. Lead the way, Blaze."
