Chapter 8: Flowers

(Ein's POV)

God, this guy is too much.
He has no right assuming things about my family when he doesn't even know what he's talking about.
But, we haven't talked about it in a couple weeks, so I guess I shouldn't be dwelling on it.
Plus, I mean, he's not... terrible.
He's good company at least.
Even if he is a little annoying, he's sweet.

We continue walking through the forest in silence.
It's not awkward, though.
It's a calming silence.
Throughout the couple weeks, we ran into a few monsters.
We killed them though.
It wasn't very hard considering I was trained to keep monsters out of Scaleswind.

As we're walking, Blaze is looking around.
Taking everything in to try and find something that seems familiar.
I definitely made the right choice going with him.
Doesn't even fucking know where he's going.

"Blaze, just admit it. You have no idea where we are."

"I do! Irene, do you ever stop talking?"

"You're asking ME that? You're a hypocrite."

"So? I'm not the one interrupting your pathfinding process-"

"There it is! You just admitted it! You have no clue where we are!" I say grinning from ear to ear, finally proving my point to him.

"I... Crap, man. You're annoying."

"Thank you. I take that as a compliment."

"... Why?" Blaze asks, looking back at me with a confused expression plastered on his face.

I just shrug my shoulders in response.
He looks at me in disbelief and I laugh at the stupid face he's making.
He rolls his eyes and smirks as he begins to chuckle.
I feel my heart skip a beat as I take in the sight in front of me.
He's honestly so good to me.
I wouldn't say I completely trust him, but I trust him enough to where I know he wouldn't hurt me.
If he wanted to harm me in any way, he would've done it by now.
But he's nice to me...
Something I don't think I would've ever expected from a werewolf.

After a little while more of chatting and walking, we come across a flower field.
And oh my Irene.
When I tell you that this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, I mean it full heartedly.
Flowers of every hue completely cover the grass below.
The flower field stretched for what seemed to be miles.
It was insanely beautiful.

"W-Woah... This is..." I begin.

"Amazing." Blaze says, finishing my sentence for me.

I sigh, stepping forward, wanting to get closer to the flowers.
Suddenly, Blaze is running towards them with a goofy smile plastered on his face.

"C'mon, Ein!" Blaze shouts, running backwards to face me.

I don't hesitate to run after him.
Running and frolicing through the flower field, Blaze trips over his own feet and falls down.
Hugging himself while laying on his back, he begins to laugh.
I stop by where he was and sit down, knowing he's probably not gonna want to stand up.
Eventually, he stops laughing and sits up right next to me.

"So, do you like it?" Blaze asks me with a hopeful smile on his face.

"Of course I do- wait what?" I ask, suddenly suspicious of the werewolf sitting next to me, "Did... Did you seriously trick me to believe that you were lost just so we could come here?!"

He chuckles, "So you aren't as dumb as I thought."

"So... this isn't Falcon Claw?!" I ask out of pure disbelief.

"What? No way," Blaze laughs, "I used to come here when I was younger, though. I wanted to show you."

"Right, but we were supposedly traveling to Falcon Claw for weeks, Blaze. Weeks!"

"Ein, calm down. This is on the way there. We just took a small detour. It'll be about 2 more days of traveling before we get there, so why not stop and rest here for a bit?"

"Did the detour spare us any time at least?!"

"Yes, it did actually. We would've been walking for at least another week if I hadn't taken us this route."

"Oh... Uh... Well, I feel stupid now."

"Eh, it's alright. I can see why you were mad at me," Blaze says rubbing the back of his neck, "I should've told you we were taking a different route."

"No, no. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have snapped. I'm supposed to trust you, right?"

"Uh, no one ever said you were 'supposed' to trust me, but it's nice knowing you do." Blaze says with a smile on his face.

I roll my eyes and chuckle to myself.
I catch him sneaking glances my way, but it's not making me uncomfortable.
I let myself fall back onto the flowers surrounding us and breathe in the warm evening air.
The sunset is so clear from where Blaze and I are.
It wasn't like that in the forest when we were walking.
It's nice to stop and just soak it all in.

I look over to Blaze who's looking towards the sunset.
His facial features look so amazing in the sunlight.
The soft breeze gently tugs at his hair, moving the strands out of his face to reveal a scar at the top of his forehead.
It complimented his features so well in an odd way.
Kinda like the strange combination of his hair and eye colors.
But everything works together to create the beautiful complexion of his face-

"You okay there?" Blaze asks me.

Shit, was I staring?
I can feel my face heat up.
Apparently it was visible because Blaze starts laughing.

"Hey! Stop laughing!" I shout at him.

It only makes him laugh even more, which in turn makes me laugh.
He stops laughing and looks over at me.
His smile very prominent on his face.
I lay back down on the flowers.

"You okay there?" I ask, playfully mocking him.

"Ha ha. Very funny." He replies as I give him a sly smirk.

Blaze lays down next to me and closes his eyes.
He inhales deeply and sighs, smiling.
God, this guy likes to smile a lot, doesn't he?
And it's fucking contagious because I can't stop smiling either.
I've experienced happiness.
But it's been so long, that it feels almost unfamiliar.
It's... nice.

"Thank you." I say.

"For what?" Blaze replies softly.

"Thank you for bringing me here. I needed this."

"Oh, no problem, man. I'm glad you like it."

"I do... It's beautiful."
