Mitch’s POV
This week has been the most horrible week of my life. I’m not in the mood to tell every detail of the story so here’s a summary of what’s happened this week. My mom and dad was on their way home from the airport when they got into a terrible car crash. They died before the paramedics came. As a result, I was sent to my uncle’s house to move in with him. I have been in my uncle’s house for two days now.
“Mitch, I need to talk to you.” My uncle said to me as he led me to the living room.
“Yes uncle?”
“This morning I went to the local school and signed you in.”
“Oh..” I replied to him coldly. I might seem tough, but deep down inside I’m crying hard. I mean, I just lost both of my parents and now I need to go to a new school and make new friends. Heck, I didn’t even have any friends in my old school. They said that I’m weird and they always made fun of me. I had no idea what I did wrong, but I think that they just hate me for who I am.
“Mitch, I know that everything’s been hard. But you need to continue your study. You need to study hard so you can be successful and make your parents proud. I’m sure that this is what they want.” My uncle said, reassuring me. I know that arguing won’t make any differences so I just nod my head, agreeing with my uncle.
“You will start school tomorrow. I have an extra car that you can use tomorrow.”
“Okay uncle. Thanks for everything. I think I’m going to sleep now, I’m exhausted.” I said while standing up and walking towards my room.
“Okay. Good night Mitch” I heard my uncle said.
The next morning, I woke up feeling horrible. I could barely sleep at night. I had a nightmare that kept me awake. My head is spinning and all I wanted to do was to curl up into a ball and went back to sleep. But lucky me, note the sarcasm, I had school today and I definitely didn’t want to be late on my first day.
So, I quickly went to the bathroom to get ready and changed my clothes. Then, I pack up my school supplies into my backpack and headed downstairs.
“Morning Mitch.” My uncle said before sipping his coffee.
“Morning uncle.” I replied.
“So, the principal called and she said that you should go to her office once you get to the school. The car’s ready and there’s a GPS installed so you won’t get lost.” He explained to me. I just nodded and went to grab the car keys.
“Bye uncle.” I said before closing the front door and drove to school.
I arrived at the school 10 minutes later. The school building looked nice. There were students walking and chatting with their friends everywhere. After parking my car, I went inside and tried to find the principal’s office. After walking down the hall, I saw a door on the right which says ‘PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE’ so I knocked and a lady told me to come in.
“Hi, my name is Madeline and you must be Mitch.” She said with her wide smile.
“Hi, nice to meet you. And yes I’m Mitch.”
“You can sit down. The principal will see you soon.”
I sat down on the chairs in front of her. I looked around. The walls were full with pictures, mostly pictures of the football team holding a trophy. There were also several pictures of the debate team. But what caught my attention was the pictures of the drama club. I have always loved drama. In my old school, I joined the drama club and was often chosen to act as the main character of the play. My parents used to take me to singing, dancing, and acting classes so you don’t have to worry about my skills. I was about to ask Madeline on how to join the drama club when she said that the principal is ready for me. I then opened the wooden door in front of me and stepped in.
“Good morning Mr. Grassi. My name is Ms. Johnsons and I’m your principal.” She said.
“Good morning. It’s nice to meet you.” I said to her with a smile.
“It’s nice to meet you too Mr. Grassi.” She replied with a smile as well. She then continued talking. “We’re very glad to have you here in our school. I’ve seen your old school’s report and it said that you have straight A’s in all subjects, and let’s not put aside your ability in Arts.”
I blushed when hearing her words. I have never heard anyone complementing me before, so this one is definitely a new thing for me.
“Mr. Grassi if I may ask, why did you move here? Your uncle only said that you just moved here but never said why.”
“Um.. my parents just died so I had to move in with my uncle here.”
“Oh I’m so sorry for your loss Mr. Grassi.” She said with empathy in her eyes.
“It’s okay.” I gave her a reassuring smile. We then talked about how I would like to join the drama club and I obviously said yes to the offer. After a few minutes of talking, Ms. Johnsons took me to my homeroom class. She called my homeroom teacher out, and then told me that she’ll leave me with Mr. Sullyvan. When walking inside the classroom I suddenly felt very nervous. My palms started to get sweaty and I started to feel sick. The teacher then told me to introduce myself.
“H-Hi.. My name is M-Mitch.” I said nervously.
“I-I’m new here, a-and.. a-and..” My mind suddenly went blank. I don’t know what to say or what to think and I just stood right there.
Suddenly I heard someone said something that made me want to cry. “And what, twink? Cat got your tongue? Or are you too stupid to even say a sentence?” One of the jocks said and the whole class laughed. At that point, all the memories of getting bullied raced back to my mind. I tried my best to hold back the tears but I think I failed. Mr. Sullyvan scolded the jock and told me to find an empty seat. I found one closest to where I was standing, and sat there. I covered my face with my palms and started to let a small sob out.
“Excuse me. But that spot’s taken.” I said someone next to me said. I looked up and was a blond guy glaring at me.
“Oh.. s-sorry..” I said while wiping the tears that fell down my cheeks. He didn’t seem to care that I was crying, which is good. I don’t need people to bully me for being a cry baby. As I stood up, I tried to find an empty seat and I think my eyes almost popped out of my eyes when I saw that the only empty seat left is next to the guy who just called me stupid. Oh what a wonderful day! I slowly walked over to that seat hoping that the earth would swallow me so I didn't have to face this life.
As I sat down, I felt the tears started to come out again. I could clearly hear the words that the jock said earlier repeating in my head like a broken record. I usually wouldn't be this emotional but I didn't know what was happening to me. So I started to cry harder and shaking a little bit. Suddenly, I felt a pair of hands making contact with my table and I flinched. I was still crying but I could hear that the person was telling me to calm down and relax, and it kinda felt new to me. I mean, no one has ever cared about me before, not even my parents. And hearing someone that I barely knew calming me down is the best feeling ever. The person left after he finished his words and I could feel the pain being taken away. I instantly felt happy and moved on to my next class as the bell rang.
