Chapter 21

Mitch's POV

The rest of the day went by perfectly. I spent my second to fourth period in his room. He didn't have any class to teach, and I didn't want to go to my classes so we just talked.

We talked about a lot of stuff before my curiosity got the best of me.

"Um.. Mr. Kirk?" I asked him nervously.

"Stop calling me that. I'm not that old. Well, not yet. Call me Alex." He smiled and I just nodded.

"Alex, why are you here?" I asked. I met him the other day at Scott's office wearing suit so he must work there, and our previous art teacher showed no sign that he wanted to quit his job, so why were he here?

"What do mean? I work here. I teach Art class." He smirked. He looked very suspicious and I knew that he must he hiding something, and I was going to find out what that is.

"But I thought you worked at um.. Scott's dad's company."

"Yeah I do." He answered calmly, which made me even more confused.

"Then why would you work here? The pay there is great, you know."
"Hm.. you really wanna know why?" He asked me. I nodded.

"Because I have someone here that I like. And I want to be closer with that person." He smirked and I got more confused. Who did he like? Oh I know.

"Do you have a crush on Ms. Robinson? She's kinda hot." I said bluntly. He just laughed.

"You really have no idea, don't you?" He chuckled as I shook my head in confusion.

"Well then you need to find out the person that I like. Good luck." And with that, he sent me off to my class. How dare he left me being curious about his crush. But I will find out the answer sooner or later.

I decided to just skip the whole day and went to the park. Speaking of skipping, I wondered where Scott was. I wasn't looking for him nor did I want to see him. I just wanted to know where he was because I haven't seen him at all today. We usually bumped into each other a lot, and not to mention that we had classes together. But I was glad that I didn't have to face him because I wasn't in the mood for talking.

When I arrived at the park, I sat on the bench that was facing the playground. I looked around and saw children running around with huge smiles plastered on their face. I smiled thinking how cute they were.

"Hey." I jumped slightly from my seat, surprised that there was someone sitting next to me. I looked to my right and saw Kirstie.

"Hi" I replied back. She just smiled and looked at the playground. We stayed like that for about 5 minutes before she finally spoke up.

"So.. how are things between you and Scott?" She asked and I could feel that this conversation wasn't going to end well.

"I don't know." I answered shortly. I honestly didn't know. I was no longer angry with him, but I wasn't ready to be friends with him either. So I really didn't know.

"Um.. I just want to let you know that he has been thinking about you all the time. He is really angry at himself that he tried to do some horrible things. So, can you please at least talk to him? I know you still like him." She said and smiled.

Horrible things? What did he try to do? Did I make him like that?

"I'll try. But no promises."

"Thank you. I hope everything gets back to normal soon." She sighed and then left me there. And once again I was alone. I checked my phone and realised that it was time for my internship. So I grabbed my bag and head to the office.

*******

I pressed the elevator button that sent me straight to the floor where I worked.

"Oh Mitch, there you are. Where have you been? Mr. Hoying has been looking for you." Tiffany, Scott's personal receptionist told me. I was actually panicked because I thought I was late. But I checked my watch and saw that I still have 5 minutes to spare before my work started.

"Um.. am I required to be here 15 minutes before my working hour starts? Because I start in 5 minutes." I said and she seemed confused. Something is wrong.

"Oh I don't know about that. Anyway, Mr. Hoying told me to send you to his office when you come. So just go there." She smiled and I thanked her. Then I headed to Scott's office. I grabbed the door handle and sighed.

Come on Mitch. Nothing can go wrong.

I opened the door slowly and what I saw broke my heart. Scott was sitting on his desk with his hands and face rested on the table. His shoulders lifted everytime a sob escaped. I saw empty bottles of liquor on top of his desk. He hadn't noticed me yet, but maybe that was because a song was playing in the background. (I put the song here)

Take me back to the night

When we first fell in love

Take me back to the night

When it all felt so real

Cause I never want to forget

A single thing about you baby

And I never want to erase

A single memory that we've made

Cause I still have the faith

And I still believe in us

As the song goes, the lyrics became sadder and sadder to the point where tears are threatening to fall out from my eyes. And at that point I realised how I was the one who made him to be like that. I was overreacting. I was exaggerating things. I shouldn't have been angry with him just because of a small thing like this. And that was the point where I realised that I want to be with him again. I want to be his best friend again. I want to be his again.
