Chapter 17

Scott's POV

I just had a talk with my dad who just came back from his business trip in Europe. To be honest, I liked it better if he was gone away taking after his business than being at home because whenever he was home, he always told me how I need to start working in his company now so that I could take after it once I finished my education. I mean, i hadn't even finished highschool and he wanted me to take after his company. He was getting crazier as he aged, that's for sure.

Anyway, this talk wasn't like the previous talks we had before. Usually, the talk consisted of my father giving me a tons of reasons of why I should start working for him and stuff like that. But this time, it was different.

"Dad, if you're trying to make me work for you then you're wasting your time. My answer is still the same. I don't want to." I said coldly once i spotted my father sitting in the living room. He was reading the newspaper, something that had been his habit since forever.

"I'm not doing that this time."

"Then what is it?" To be honest, I was a little bit shocked. The only conversation my dad and I had for the past year was either talking about the company or talking about my football games. And I know it wasn't about football this time because the season hadn't started yet.

"You start on Monday." He said shortly. Start? Start what? And where?

"The CEO position is yours starting from Monday. Come to the office everyday after school. I will ask Mr. Lee to guide you with your duties as the CEO. Skip a day without my permission and you won't get any allowance for the next 3 months." He said and stood up, then walking to his bedroom leaving me confused and a little upset. How could he do this to me? I was still a teenager. I couldn't spend my afternoons working. I needed to hang out with my friends. Ugh, this was so frustrating. I would deal with this tomorrow because the only thing I wanted to do now was to get back to Mitch's house. I decided to call his cell to see if he was still in the house. He didn't answer on the first call so I dialed him again and this time he picked it up.

"Mitch?"

"Y-yes?" He said, but there was something different in his voice. Was he panting? But why would he be panting? I didn't know that he was the type of person who went to the gym on his free time.

"Mitch? Are you okay?"

"Ehm.. yes I am. Why?"

"You sounded like you're out of breath. You sure you okay?" I asked him worried. He could have been running from a serial killer or something like that and I didn't want anything bad to happen to him.

"Yeah I'm sure.. um.. why did you call?" He said having already gained his breath.

"Oh I was wondering if I can come to your house again." I asked and there were silence for a moment. He didn't answer and I was really worried by now.

"Mitch?"

"Oh sorry, but I had to do something outside so I won't be home until dinner. Um.. I gotta go. Bye." And with that he hung up the phone. What was going on? Was he okay? Mitch wasn't like this. Usually he would do whatever he could to keep the conversation going, so cutting a conversation was so unlike him. But maybe I was just exaggerating. Maybe he was doing some homeworks, or maybe applying for a job so that he wouldn't be home until dinner. So I just shrugged it off. But I was bored, so I called Avi to ask if he wanted to hang out. Like Mitch, he didn't answer at the first call either. Weird. He finally picked up after my second time trying to call him.

"Yes? What do you want? Make it quick, I'm busy." He said, and he sounded out of breath as well. Why was everyone panting today? Was today a 'run-a-mile' day? Okay this was getting so weird.
