It had been a few weeks after dad and I lost my mum. We've been devastated since it happened. My dad lost his soulmate and I lost my mother. I made sure mum got her one wish, which was to be buried with the keys to the padlock chains she gave us. I took a closer inspection of them when we got home that night and they had the saying "to the ones whom I loved the most." We haven't took the chains off since she left us. We vowed that we wouldn't. I bought a small chain made with titanium and threaded it through the two keys, then took it back up to the hospital, asking them to put it around her neck for me and dad. They gladly accepted, then came the funeral. I decided to sing Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran at her funeral, as it reminded me a lot of her. It was an emotional day, me and dad talked a lot about her after that. Eventually, dad had to go back on tour, he had postponed the tour dates to grieve with me. He knew he made a promise to mum to take me on tour with him so we packed my things and left to get back to America where Uncle Adam, Uncle Tom, Uncle Mikey and the rest of the tour crew had rented a house to stay, they didn't want to leave America to have to come back so they decided to rent it for a while.

Once we got to America, we went straight to the address Uncle Adam sent dad. When we got there, we were bombarded with sympathy. Everyone I spoke to, the first thing that got said was "I'm so sorry about your mum" and as much as it was nice to begin with, it got quite repetitive and started to upset me, but I didn't want to be rude and tell them not to say that so I stayed quiet when the said that with a simple "thanks" to reply to it.

That night, dad sat me down and said he had an idea so we discussed it.

"I think, you should come into my shows and sing your mum's favourite song that I wrote." Was the long and short of it.

"Mum's favourite song? Which one was it?"

"Polygraph Eyes"

"Polygraph Eyes? Really? Why?"

"Because... I wrote it for her... it's about her and her experience, it's why she resorted to drugs and alcohol. You were little so you didn't understand." Dad admitted. I was astounded. That means that mum was...

"She was... raped?"

"Yeah" Dad confirmed sadly. "She didn't want you to find out."

"It's understandable, dad... alright, I'll do it... as long as you rap for me? I'm not good at that stuff" I giggled slightly.

"Of course darlin'."

~~Time Skip~~

I've been in rehearsals with dad and my uncles for a week or so now, I was mainly there to practice Polygraph Eyes with them but it was weird to see Dad performing, I'd never seen it before. He told me he was trying to stay as hyped as what he normally would be but it's understandable that it's hard to do so. The time came for Dad to go on stage quicker than I thought it'd be, before Dad went on, he hugged me, kissed me forehead and said...

"Everything's gonna be alright, darlin'. Keep your head on and fix your crown"

That was mum's saying. I smiled as he winked and walked away to get to the stage. Jess, Dad's tour manager, told me to follow her so that I could have the best view of dad's performance before going up myself. I listened to the beginning recording before Dad went on stage. The lights dimmed besides the ones onstage. I saw him walk out, holding a flag as a silhouette.  The curtain in-front of him dropped and he ran forward before shouting...

"CALI, MAKE SOME FOOKIN NOISE!!!"

I didn't really care when dad swore, if anything it suited him... and I never thought I'd say that about someone. Anyway, I watched him hype up, I assumed his ADHD got wind of his adrenaline and it made him be that way. It was as if nothing happened, which was a change. A good change. I hate seeing dad upset.

Time passed and soon enough, Jess lead me backstage again to hook me up to earphone and gave me a microphone. I heard dad end his song before Polygraph Eyes was supposed to be played, but he always speaks beforehand. I listened to every word he said.

"Thank you guys so fookin much, you've been an amazing welcome back to touring. You all know I've been away for a few weeks because my wife passed away... a hard time in my life for me... me and my little girl... but let me tell you she's been an absolute... absolute fookin superstar through this shitty time. And she's here tonight to sing a song that I wrote for her poor mother who got taken from us... too soon... please help me welcome my gorgeous daughter, (Y/N)!!" The whole crowd cheered for me as I walked on stage, smiling with tears in my eyes to dad. I gave him a big hug and wiped my eyes.

"So, darlin', would you do the honours of introducing the next song?" Dad asked. I smiled then turned to the crowd.

"This song's called Polygraph Eyes" Immediately, the backing track played and dad took a moment to say one more thing to the audience.

"This song's for anyone who feel like they didn't have a chance to fookin speak... or for someone who feels like they didn't have a fookin choice. You're gonna walk out of this venue tonight and you're gonna leave that shit in here."

And with that, dad started to rap the first verse. I bopped along to the rap before singing.

Too many blokes are getting heavy
When a girl looks unsteady
Blisters on your bleeding soles
Here, have my boots, I'll walk you home

He walks her straight up to the front door
Yeah, she stumbles on the floor
We all know what happens next
A bit of fun turns to regret

As the chorus approached, dad started to join in and sing harmonies with me. We both faced each other as we sang. I understood why dad's emotions sort of got taken over. The adrenaline does hit you once you get on stage. I went to sing the second bridge, which I was more hyped about than the first.

You see this girl, she had a boyfriend
His name was Zack and he made her happy
But he couldn't understand
In his mind, she was a slag

When she tried to explain what happened
She was shouting at him for a hour
Crying at the top of her lungs
Don't leave me here, you're the one I love

Again, the chorus approached and dad sang a lot again and then took over the Middle 8.

She can't even run
She can't even walk
She slurs when she speaks
But you hear what you want when she can't even talk

My turn

She can't even run
She can't even walk
She slurs when she speaks but you hear what you want when she can't even talk

At this point, my emotions came back to me and I started to fill up with tears. I quickly wiped them away but dad took notice and walked over to me. He put his arm over my shoulder, made eye contact with me and made sure I was ok. It was a short moment but after I was ok, we continued to sing.

Leave her alone, mate
She doesn't want to go home with ya
Home with ya

Leave it alone, mate
She doesn't want to go home with ya
Home with ya

After the song finished, I hugged dad and waved to the audience, thanking them for their support then walked off. Jess asked me if I was ok and I just nodded as she took my earphones and mic from me. I said I was going back where I was earlier to watch dad perform the rest of his show. It was unlike anything I'd seen before. His energy, the amount of love in the room, the music being more emotional than usual, it just felt so surreal... I was going to be a part of it for the rest of the tour...

Wow...
