V's POV

Alright, let's just rewind a bit.

I was sitting in a café, casually waiting for Mr. Headmaster himself to notify me of an airship (or a car, I didn't really care) which would take me to the academy itself, taking a sip from a mug of coffee (which was really overpriced by the way) every now and then. My head was almost screaming though, as a question that had haunted me for the past 2 days finally decided to remind me of its existence.

What the fuck?

I put the mug back on the table and started thinking.

No, seriously, what the fuck? I'm out there, drinking tequila and enjoying myself; then fighting the corpos for a piece of shit microchip; then I'm shot in the eye. Next thing I know is boom, I'm in some random town; not in America, wait, hell, not on even Earth; fighting some wanna-be criminals under the command of a tad bit incompetent asshole; then I'm taken into custody, questioned and enrolled into a fucking school for children, which teaches them to fight literal monsters. What the fu-

My thoughts were interrupted by a message notification. It was the Headmaster. The message basically said that in 5 minutes an aerial transport will arrive at my position for pick up. Welp, beats walking to the school any day. Hope they have champagne there like in Arasaka.

I looked at a large suitcase I bought in the local shop. It was filled with items to make me look less suspicious in here. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, clothes (including the dark ones for... less legal activities) and a handgun; all packed in the container. Weirdly enough, you didn't really need any form of permit to buy an actual firearm in this world. It's not like you needed one in Night City, but there at least you were legally obliged to have one. I just entered a shop on my shopping trip yesterday, bought a gun and went out.

I think I might have a clue about how sky-high the rate of crime in this world has to be.

Fortunately, the 'town exploring' gig had turned out really well. The shopping part was all clear and I'd got myself got a full 3d map of the town, including different shops, where I could get food and weapons, bars, where I could get solid information for solid cash, and various other points of interest. All of the above was cool'n'all, but the problem was – I couldn't find a library. The bookstores in the town were closed on Tuesdays (for reasons known, probably, only to god himself) and they didn't have internet in this place too. What they did have, however, was some sort of a very big net, to which every single device was connected. It would outright be comical if I was a netrunner. I'd only need to upload a 'ping' to the net and see absolutely everything in the world. Speaking of, that would probably fry my brain. Guess not having quickhacks can be an upside sometimes.

Connecting to this net was very easy though. After about an hour of uploading my data on 'The Big Net' and creating a failsafe cache there, I became somehow bound to the 'scroll' thing the mighty professor gave me. It worked just as a usual phone... an interface. No self-respecting person had been using phones since 2054.

Another message notification popped out in the corner of my eye. Again from the same old Ozzy. Guess I should be going...

A fairly large aerial vehicle landed right in front of the coffee shop I've been sitting in. I got in and was met by a few other 'exchange students', who were similar white outfits with big A's on them. One of them simply gave me a similarly-fashioned hoodie and told me to wear it in order to look like an exchange student. I decided to save some time and not argue about the weird traditions of this world, so I took off my jacket, put it in my suitcase and put on the hoodie.

The vehicle lifted off and we were in the air. Gotta admit, the thing was as bad as it looked. It didn't have champagne and was way too large compared to small and comfy Arasaka aircrafts, but at least it flew. Every other piece of technology I had seen in this world so far was incredibly lacking in both efficiency and style.
