Part 16- Beautiful Disaster

7:15 AM

Jo took a sip of her coffee as she watched Jack get ready for work. She started to regret her decision to wait until right before he had to leave. But it couldn't wait any longer. It was now or never.

"See you tommorow" Jack told her coming over and kissing her.

"Actually I'm really sorry cause I know you're late but could you stay for a moment, I have something that can't wait until you're off shift."Jo said nervously.

"Oh no" Jack sighed "I thought this was going well and now you're going to break up with me right before I go on shift."

"No uh " Jo began but trailed off. Even though she had rehearsed it all of yesterday she had no idea what to say.

"So get this" Jo began nervously " a couple weeks ago I noticed that i'm starting to gain a bunch of weight and I'm having all these weird food cravings. And I thought it was just cause I've been so stressed but then I get all these mood swings, one minute I'm screaming at an intern and the next I'm standing there crying. I start thinking maybe but I decided it couldn't be and then the nausea started and so I bought a test thinking it was just going be something I could laugh about later. "

"And well this isn't a joke " Jo continued to ramble feeling even more nervous" And I have no idea what to do about it because we haven't even been together that long and there's a huge chance this won't work out. And I'm not ready to get married again and I"

"Jo are you telling me you're "Jack asked.

"Pregant. Yeah I think I am" Jo finished "Listen I get it if this isn't what you want. but um I think I want this. "

"I...I should go " Jack said quickly grabbing his things.

"We're gonna talk about this right?" Jo asked.

"Yeah we're gonna have to " Jack answered.

7:26 AM

"Come on you've got to know something. " Vic complained to July "Just tell us are they back together or not?"

"Even if I did know something I wouldn't say anything because it isn't your place to judge her " July argued closing his locker.

"Not judge just more of a gentle advising" Maya corrected " And it is because she's our captain and we don't want her to get hurt"

"I'm not saying anything " July repeated.

"And Ripley won't say anything to you either ?" Maya asked Vic.

"The only thing on Ripley's mind is catching the arsonist so no" Vic answered "Besides I don't think he's going to know anything for a long time."

"You all suck " Maya declared as they left the locker room"I have to know "

"Hey you ok?" Dean asked approaching Jack"You seem different."

"Yeah I'm good." Jack answered closing his locker " Wouldn't be here if I wasn't."

"Engine 19, Ladder 19, Aid 19 hotel fire. 1400 6th Avenue " The klaxons interuppted them.

8:00 AM

"It looks like it's going to be one of those days" Maya said excited as she jumped out of the rig when they arrived at the scene of a hotel fire " I love these kinds of days "

"Good something to focus your attention on instead of trying to get me to tell you Herrera's relationship status all day" July laughed as he got out as well.

"Alright 19 here's what I want to happen" Andy yelled out instructions to the team after assesing the situation.

Jack didn't hear her though. Her voice had faded and so had everything else. He was running the conversation he had with Jo this morning over and over in his mind trying to come to terms with it. He could see everyone else getting ready to go run inside and do thier jobs but that felt impossible at the moment.
