"Hi, Mom," Mal said.

I stood next to Carlos when Mal's mother appeared, Maleficent. I stared at her as I straightened my posture.

"Stealing candy, Mal? I'm so disappointed," Maleficent scolded.

"It was from a baby," Mal pointed out.

Maleficent grinned. "That's my nasty little girl." Maleficent took the lollipop from Mal and spat on it, putting it under her arm. She handed it to one of her henchmen. "Give it back to the dreadful creature."

"Mom-"

"It's the deets that make a difference between mean and truly evil!" Maleficent exclaimed. "When I was your age, I was cursing entire kingdoms," she gloated. "Walk with me."

She talked to Mal for a few moments. She turned suddenly, laughing. That was never good. "Oh, there's news! I buried the lead! Haha!" Maleficent said suddenly, startling the four of us. "You four have been chosen to go to a different school. In Auradon," Maleficent announced.

The three of them tried to escape as I stood there, bored. Auradon was so boring and so perfect. It was revolting. I took Carlos's hand in mine, calming him.

"What?! I'm not going to a boarding school, filled to the brim with prissy pink princesses," Mal said, disgusted.

"And perfect princes," Evie said dreamily. She then made a disgusted sound, but I knew she dreamed of marrying a prince.

"Yeah, and I don't do "uniforms." Unless it's leather, you feel me?" Jay asked, raising his hand to Carlos.

Carlos ignored him, taking a couple steps forward. "I read somewhere that they allow dogs in Auradon. Mom says their rabid-pack animals who eat boys who don't behave," Carlos said, shivering slightly.

Jay came up behind him and made a dog noise in his ear. Carlos hit him on the arm.

"Yeah, Mom, we're not going!" Mal said.

"Wait, four of us? But there's five of us," I butted in.

"Oh, I'm sorry. You're not going," Maleficent said, smiling. "It's not my fault that you're not evil enough to be in Prince Ben's little program."

I turned on my heel and walked away, tired of being insulted by her. She told me I didn't look evil. I wasn't evil. I was too nice. My mother would be disappointed in me. I'm weak. And I was sick of it.

"(Y/n), wait!" a boy shouted after me.

"What do you want, Carlos?" I turned around slowly.

"Don't listen to what that woman says," Carlos caught his breath. "You're evil."

I smiled slightly. "Thanks, Carlos, but, I'm really not."

"You are," Carlos repeated. "How else would you be in our group?"

"I'm not really anymore, since you're going to Auradon," I argued.

"Not by choice," Carlos frowned. He took my hands in his and I smiled. He let go and slowly hugged me. I smiled into the leather, warmness washing over me. It was slightly uncomfortable, but not at the same time.

"Here," he pulled away, taking off his jacket and handing it to me.

"Carlos, you'll be cold," I shook my head.

"Nah," Carlos slipped it onto my shoulders. "Think of me while I'm gone." He winked playfully.

I rolled my eyes, slightly smiling. "Sure, dog boy."

He hit me on the back lightly before we both parted. I headed home, where I smelled the familiar smell of my brother brewing potions. I already brewed all of my necessary ones.

"Where were you? Causing terror, I hope?" Mother questioned.

"Of course," I nodded, slipping into my room. I placed the jacket on one of my hooks. I smiled at the 'X' made of bones on the back of it.

How did that boy not know I liked him?
