"We need to talk," Evie wrapped her arms around us.

"Yeah," Mal agreed.

"No," Carlos stopped us.

"No?" Evie questioned.

"You guys are always going off in a huddle, whispering your girl talk stuff or whatever. And Jay and I are tired of it," Carlos explained.

"I'm not," Jay raised his hand.

"We're your family too. We've been through a lot. Together. We're not stopping that now, okay? Everyone sit," Carlos sat on the ground as Dude barked.

Ronan jumped out of my arms and sat on the ground, looking at me. "You listen to me, but not him?" I questioned, sitting on the ground.

"I don't know how to start girl talk," Carlos said, making me smile.

"What up?" Jay shrugged.

"Um, well, I'm a mess, I'm such a mess," Mal admitted. "I mean, six months ago I was, you know, stealing candy from babies and now, everybody wants me to be this lady of the court and I have no idea how to keep up the act."

"Then don't," Carlos said simply.

"See, this was dumb," Jay shifted.

"Maybe it wasn't," Evie stopped him from getting up. "We're always going to be the kids from the Isle. I tried to forget it, I really tried, but those are our roots. And we all did what we had to do to survive. It made us who we are. And we're never going to be like everybody else here. And that's okay, that's okay."

"And we can't take it," Carlos added.

"No," Evie shook her head.

"Yeah, especially not without my spellbook," Mal looked at her hands.

"Mal, if Ben doesn't love the real you, then he's not the one," Carlos reasoned.

"I like that," Evie agreed.

"Give him a chance," Carlos said quietly.

"I'm going to make some changes to your dress. And if you're up for it, only if you're up for it, it'll be waiting for you, okay?" Evie questioned.

"(Y/n)?" Jay looked at me.

"Be yourself. Might not be the same evil ways, but, we adjust and act as we normally do," I smiled.

We waited for a moment before the four of us got up. I held Ronan as I walked around the courtyard. I admired the greenness of everything.

Carlos walked up to me after a while, in his uniform. He smiled, sitting down next to me. Ronan sniffed him and recognized the scent. She let him be.

"Hi," Carlos smiled.

"Hey," I smiled back.

"You didn't need to change," Carlos lifted his hand up to play with my hair.

"I wanted to," I shrugged. "And I think Dizzy did a pretty good job." I paused. "Shouldn't you go get ready for Cotillion?"

"About that," Carlos licked his lips nervously. "You know how Dude can speak?"

I nodded. "Mal had made me a truth gummy because I wanted to visit the Isle and tell you how I felt, but I didn't know how to speak. Dude ended up eating it instead."

"If by feelings, you mean that you wanted to explain that you like me, I completely understand. I could barely talk around you before you left," I said in understanding.

"Now that you were here, I wanted to ask you... if you would be my date to Cotillion," Carlos said slowly.

My cheeks flushed red. "Why me?"

"I've known you since Mal invited us to that party. We've been best friends, and... I've wanted to be more than that," Carlos explained.

I smiled, remembering the party. Ronan looked up at me expectantly and I looked at Carlos. "Yes, I will go to Cotillion with you, Carlos."

He beamed and hugged me. I hugged him back, smiling into his shoulder. Ronan nudged my leg, making me pull away. Evie was rushing toward me with a big smile.

"Come on! I need to show you our dresses!" Evie said eagerly.

"Our?" I questioned as I was yanked up by the arm.

"I might've gone a little overboard with making dresses," Evie smiled as we walked toward the dormitories.

"Sorry, Carlos. I'll see you later. Ronan!" I said quickly as Evie dragged me away. Ronan joined my side as Evie opened a door. Mal smiled as she sat on her bed.

"First dress," Mal smiled.

"Great," I rolled my eyes, while at the same time curious about how I would look.

Evie handed me a dress and a pair of heels and told me to get dressed in the closet. I changed and held the zipper together as I walked out. Evie zipped it up as I closed my eyes. I felt her fuss with a couple more things before she stopped.

"And... open."

I awed at myself in the mirror. I looked at Evie with a bright smile. She fixed the feather headband and made sure the two purple strands were flowing correctly.

"Evie... how did you make this so perfectly?" I questioned.

"I knew your style," Evie smiled, messing with my purple hair. "Here."

She handed me a pair of teal earrings, which I put in immediately. They kind of reminded me of Mother's famous earrings. Evie dusted my eyelids with slightly purple eyeshadow and a little mascara. "Ready," Evie said.
