The Fight: Chapter 7

        Kayla wakes up alone, lying next to the Glade wall. It's morning... she must have been tired to fall asleep all through the afternoon and night...

She climbs to her feet, remembering her broken ankle and yelps, stumbling down. She grabs her crutches next to her and pulls them under her arms. 

Getting to her feet again, she looks around. Alby is walking towards her, with Gally next to him. He looks much better, the serum must have worked.

"Greenie, this is Gally."

Kayla's gaze hardens. "I know who he is."

She swallows, memories of getting strangled flashing through her mind.

"Yeah, well, test that foot of yours. Can you walk without crutches?"'

"Um..." Kayla drops the crutches and steps forward, she winces slightly, then limps a few more feet. "Yeah."

"Good because Gally here is gonna' be your first trainer."

She shakes her head, confused. "Huh?"

Gally speaks for Alby. "You need to find a job, shank. And today, you're workin' with me to see if you have any potential to be a Builder."

She nods. "Okay."

Gally steps forward and grabs her shoulder. "Great. We start now. Let's go."

He pulls her along, she yelps occasionally from her foot, and all the Gladers they pass either yell at Gally to soften up or cheer him on. She hates this place.

They reach a part of the Glade that needs work, a new building. Kayla doesn't get told what it is, Gally just pushes her into a chair in front of him. The five or six other Gladers working ignore them and Kayla narrows her eyes at Gally.

"Alright, so first off, shuck-face, this is a nail." He holds up one, acting as if she is a three year old.

"I know what that is and I know how to build just tell me what to do." She adds in Glade slang. "Slinthead."

Gally scowls at her and grabs her shoulder again, pulling her to the other Builders. "Alright, you smart piece of klunk! Build another sleeping area!" 

He holds her shoulder tighter, digging his fingers into her collar bone. 

"Get off me!" She smacks his hand away and shoves him back. Kayla turns around to start her work and suddenly Gally slams into her, shoving her into the unfinished wall. The rest of the Gladers don't stop working, they're probably Gally's friends.

"Listen, you piece of klunk shuck-face!" His spit flies and splatters her face, she can't do anything, his strong hands are on her shoulders. Her foot starts to ache in the awkward position, it's twisted to the left slightly beside his body.

"I'm in charge here! Not Alby, and DEFINITELY not lover boy Newt!!" Kayla struggles to raise a fist.

"So you listen to me, follow by my rules! You hear me!?!" She thrusts her fist forward, intersecting with Gally's jaw and sending him back a few feet, just enough for Kayla to escape. She starts to run as quickly as she can, but Gally gets to his feet. 

He sprints at full speed, leaping at her and tumbling to the ground. She screams in pain as his knee lands on her broken ankle. They roll over each other for a while until he has her pinned to the ground. His hands are on her shoulders again and he picks her up, slamming her down on the hard earth. The other Builders are behind him now, cheering him on. Other Gladers show up, too scared to interfere.

Kayla feels the wind knocked out of her and she shoves him off, jumping on top of him. She lifts up her good foot, kicking him in the ribs, though he gets up again. Gally punches her in the face in the same place as the changing and she gasps in pain. 

A bruise forms and scratch on top of it. Suddenly, Alby shows up, grabbing Gally and throwing him back to the other Builders. He points a finger at Kayla. 

"You. Follow me. NOW."

Kayla can do nothing but obey, and Alby leads her to where she learned was the Slammer, a dug out hole in the ground with thick, stick bars and a latch on the outside. 

He unlocks the cage and throws her in, she lands on the ground with a thump.

Kayla hears the lock of the latch and Alby's footsteps as he walks away. 

HEEEEYYY!!! Be expecting MUCH MORE UPDATING from me!!! Since i have the week off, i have nothing to do!! Kinda sad, but oh well!!!
