A Worrying Conversation

"Harry, what I'm about to say is serious and classified information that if exposed to Voldemort, he would no doubt take advantage of. Please keep this to yourself! Although thinking about it... it would also be ok so share this information with your dragon companion Haruvisial. I'm positive she could also shed some light on the knowledge."

Harry sat up straight and stared intently at his mentor's face, creased with intense thought.

"I understand sir, I am just grateful to you that I can have a reason to all the pain behind my scar." Swallowing thickly he clasped his hands around his cooling mug of cocoa, stomach full from devouring the rolls...

"I believe that when you were struck with the killing curse by Voldemort, in repelling the curse back, the scar you were given was caused by the piercing intent of the curse that was in fact aimed specifically at your head for maximum efficiency. And when Voldemort's curse was repelled his magical signature was in taken by your scar and subconsciously created a connection. In life or death situations Harry, witches and wizards often create connections to each other to stabilise themselves. In creating this bond the residual signature of magic left behind after Voldemort was vanquished continued to linger in your scar."

Harry upon hearing this blanched in horror at the thought of a connection with Voldermort. I'm going to die aren't I? I'll kill him in a battle, but because of our connection, I'll die too... I'm doomed...

" Do not fret Harry, the connection you formed with Voldemort was nothing more than a magical signature recognition, it means you'll be able to detect whenever he is around via your scar, due to it containing his magical signature, almost like a foe glass I'd say..."

"So I won't die?" He asked tentatively

"Of course not my boy! You're going to be ok Harry, when Voldemort dies, his magic residue will leave your scar and it will heal, almost as if you never had it!"

Upon hearing that, Harry felt like a great weight of pressure had vanished from his shoulders...

"However, the only problem with your scar, is that since it's linked to Voldemort's magic, your scar acts as a small area of weakness for legilimency attacks specifically from him. It's the reason as to why Quirrell/Voldemort caused the pain in your scar, Voldemort had been using legilimency probes on you during his lessons, but since he had no idea of the scars properties he was fortunately unable to make full usage of it. I had contemplated getting Professor Snape to teach you Occlumency but after some thought I've dismissed the idea due to your scar. I believe it won't allow you to build barriers specifically to block Voldemort."

"So when the scar disappears, my mental shields will be fully sealed?" Harry asked, brow creased in thought

"You are absolutely correct Harry, a rather astute observation!"

Upon seeing his mentor's face light up with a smile of approve, he immediately blushed from the praise, hands tightly gripping the now cold mug of cocoa.

"I was originally worried that you were a Horcrux Harry" Professor Dumbledore sighed from behind his mug of cocoa

"A horcrux professor?" Whatever it is, it sounds foreboding... he thought

"Yes indeed, a rather foreboding name for a ghastly piece of magic, magic from the darkest of arts, magic that tears the soul into pieces, granting them immortality as long as the pieces of stored soul stay anchored to the earth. I didn't want you to hear of horcruxes at all, they're truly foul, and I hope that you never think to dwell on them."

Having being so seriously spoken to, horcruxes were banished instantly from Harry's mind in horror.

"Although I am rather glad that in all the time Voldemort was alive, he didn't resort to using the idea at all."

"But sir, I thought you mentioned Voldemort never being truly vanquished?"

Upon hearing Harry's question Professor Dumbledore seemed to age in front of him..

"I have thought on this for a while, horcruxes were the only things that could keep someone on the plane of living, and after some reasoning I had also found out about the ritual."

The way his mentor has spoken of this ritual with such disgust and mourning brought shivers down his spine.

"W-What did he do professor?"

Sighing heavily, he placed down his mug and rested a heavy hand on Harry's shoulder. " Harry, I promised I wouldn't keep anything from you, so I will tell you everything, but please beware that the things Voldemort's followers have done and are currently doing even now. To the point where their activities are increasing in number, and also as to why the dark marks have yet to disappear even after his demise was due to..."

The next few words, chilled him to the bone, and it all suddenly clicked.

A sacrifice.
