The walk was short. It was only five minutes, but it felt longer. She stayed quiet most of the way there so I start a conversation. “So, Avery, any crushes?”
“Ew, boys. Why would I like them? They are gross,” she said looking away from me.
“They all are.”
“Was daddy?”
“Yup. I thought he was the grossest and weirdest person ever, but I liked him.” She smiled a bit.
“I still miss him,” she said.
“I do too.” We got to the park and I said, “Go try and make new friends.”
She sighed, “I guess I’ll try.” She ran over to the playground and I sat on the park bench to watch her. She went over to some kids and it looked like they let her play because they started playing tag. I smiled. She looked over at me and smiled.
I took my phone out and went on twitter. There were many tweets about how One Direction was in England. Avery would flip. She loves one direction. I’m a fan of them too but she’s a bigger fan. I looked at more of the tweets but no one said where they were.
“Mommy!” I looked up and saw Avery running over to me.
