scathed

In a twinkle of an eye, everything  turned upside down, normal to abnormal. Mr Salahadine, had all this figured out and if one is not trustful, he'll be curious to believing, that the sage, Mr Salahadine, is the main culprit in all that's been happening, but he was just prepared, and ready for it. According to him, he has studied and knew what medically and on the wide scientifically, what the adverse consequences of brutalizing the ozone layer would effectually, results to on human.
Due to the unstable power supply that have over the years immemorial been, the tormentor in chief of the large populate, of the citizens. We found ourselves seated side by side each other, resting our backs on the wall. The whole of the building was dark, power had gone off. We could only see each and other eyes. We couldn't sleep for terror of what we had seen. We're just like glued to where were seated, I could hear each heart of the other three, beating like the shaolin war drums. Our legs trembling while folded up to the body, and hands round of it. It was about 8pm, we took that position, to keep the building in a silent mode, so we don't draw attention of the people we saw outside, and as ill luck will have it the power went off, so we drifted more to the wall, and waited on the next pun before making the next move. We became so frightened because, the moment the power went off, one of the doors downstairs was opened, and we could hear number of legs around the big sitting room, sometimes there will be a thump sound of fall and falls, sometimes a glass will shatter, and there was this non stop grunting, repeatedly so, it would not cease, sometimes a squeaky one follows it.
My village is a very sweet and conducive place to be, so natural and with fresh smell of nature. One could perceive the fresh scents of the trees and grasses, almost like a bush path about each houses. The palm trees and coconut trees are in abundant, and the serene, mild. But the problem right about now, is the serene. The sounds coming from around, are temptingly frightening. As the grunts continued and we getting inclined with it, a heavy bass like sound rented the air, such that forced a light groan out of us, then, it became musical. The strong bass will come first, then follows this light one, then the strong bass will be heavy, and the light one remains at it peach, and at when the heavy one seem to lessen in weight, the light one, or should I say soft, comes with a force. We were still pondering and wondering what it was, Sarahdina, wanted to take off herself, we were looking at each other, asking with our faces to each other what we should do, then, Lotanna who is sitting by my right hand side bent over to me, and asked whisperingly.
- what's happening, what's that? -
He seemed quite relaxed and not heckled, by the sounds, because, as far as am concerned, the sound have been heckling at us. When I answered him, telling him what our troubles were.
- the sounds, especially the heavy one, what's that? -
- it's the frog of course -
Damn! Damn me I said within, at this juncture, I do not know either to burst laughing at myself or be crossed with myself. Little wonder, it is said that, fear is the bane of big dream. I calmed and bent to Sarahdina who's sitting by  my left hand side, and whispers to her that it's the frogs. She just bent her neck and rest her head on my shoulder. Baba, drifts to the floor, folding his hands to themselves and resting his head on it. We are just stocked up at this corner, because we don't know our way around the building, like am a stranger in my house, a complete visitor in my home.
.          .          .          .          .
As we were seated there, others probably worn out, have slept off, that was when the reality of what happened earlier the day dawned on me, before I could think it over again, I had lasted minutes crying, tears raining from my eyes, I can't imagine it, we were there few seconds away.
It all came to me back again like in a dream, while my eyes are wide open. I couldn't sleep not after what my eyes saw earlier the day.
As we were going to enter the building, a lady's voice screamed our attention back, the people surrounding my father were vibrating hardly and seriously, as if they had a naked cable plugged on them, my dad was watching in wonderment and couldn't understand what was happening, he stood from his seat, looking round. I started crying cupping my mouth with my palm, when I read through what his lips were in actuality saying, he was searching for me, calling at my name. As if in a riot, some people were fighting some who happens to be killing others, biting at them and breaking their bones. I wanted to make a dash at where my babu was, when the people vibrating around him stopped vibrating, and our eyes meeting with each other, when they choreographically raised their heads, and bounced on him with their tooth, the first one mounting his neck, then series of tooth from different heads rained down on him, he tried wriggling out from them, but more and more tooth was running at him. We have to ran into the building, when their attention was drawn to us by Sarahdina's cry, we were so tensed, and troubled that the presence of Chika did not come to us unawares. Everything is unbelievable, just like they always have it in the horror movies. I cried bitterly and wondered why all this decided to happen during my own life time, or what do I call all this happenings, movie?
I was looking on, straight at a stained glass while gradually the day began to break. And then this oink sounds became so deliberate, that it seem like in poultry of pigs. Baba, was the first to wake, and one could tell, that he must have forgotten yesterday, he woke up fresher, and was going to stand as soon as he woke up, but I pulled him down, looking at me, on his second thought seem to come back to reality of things around us. Sarahdina, had long changed her sleeping position to folding herself up on my lap. Lotanna, stretchered out, they all seem to be forgetful, forgetting what we all went through, he wanted to stand before I pull at him down by his panties, swiftly, and frightened he rump around on the floor as if he was searching for a dropped coin, coming back to his senses, he sat still, then quickly rests his back on the wall. Sarahdina was still sleeping, after I positioned her on the floor, my legs aches, and feels like blood stopped flowing, I could not move the legs well, and have to shake it gently to allow flow of blood. We looked on as the day break. I was shocked to the bone marrow, when I saw someone walking up the other side of the  corridor, we did well not to call at him, because by the time when he was coming back, after reaching the end of the corridor like a royal guard, we found his eyes bloodshot and saliva dropping from the side of his mouth. He just was faced down, not looking up, he wasn't making any sound. Where we were, to where he is, there's this minor door closed. So we waited on him to walk up again, and as he did, we glide to the left side of the corridor, we wanted to escape through that side, we wanted to negotiate the stairs there to the down floor and from there maybe get a help, before getting to the end it was time for him to return, and so we stopped, but he also stopped midway, and was looking at our direction but we remained still. He would look at our direction and would kind of withdrew his glare at us a bit backward, then again and again, he did that like five times or so, before continuing, we waited on him to return, and as he was doing so, Lotanna whispered that we should stand and run, we have gotten to the end of the left side of the corridor, but baba signalled that we should check properly before doing so, he was giving that signal when I looked back to found Sarahdina not following us, still sleeping, I tapped on baba and Lotanna pointing at Sarahdina, Baba's eyes popping out in disbelief, at this time our royal guard was returning, and baba became extremely restless, physically tensed up, and would want to give it a run, I just was tapping gently on his legs to be calm. The guy walking down the corridor, on realizing that we have gotten to the end of the corridor, began to hum at us, and charging like he wants to jump from there to where we are, but we remained still. After some time, he became calm and completed his movement. I crawled to Sarahdina, covers her mouth, holding her down, she opened her eyes, and I signalled her not to talk, then I pointed out baba to her, and our strange looking fellow. But the strange guy had stopped on his track, with his head still bent low. We crawled to where baba is, and looking through the corridor, we saw close to ten male and female standing around, this is for sure a no go area for us, and peeping down we found out that they have filled the sitting room to the point of no space to move, they were all moving at the same time shoving at each other.
At this, we don't need to be told that, we have to fight for our survival, we must fashion and plan a way to getting out of this building first, at least. The corridor was cleared and clean, only the flower vase and the flower in it. But, on the side of the corridor where the first strange fellow was, a wooden chair stands by the corner. Should we remain on the corridor, but for how long should we do so?
At the time when ever you think you are lost, don't fret, something must spun you on. And that exactly was what happened to us. The electrical power supply was restored. The lightening up of the building, did little or nothing to helping our situation, the coming up of the television did not either. We laid there, and I began to think. What if the noise from the television does, can we stand their reactions, and how would they behave, what would be the measure of their strength compare to us? We have seen movies of horrors, but this is reality now that we are talking about. I looked again, and the decoder has started reading up. I whispered to others that we will have to raze the building. We get rid of the building, and see how to escape to where real people still are in existence. We are lost at what to do next, when a noise from the sitting room drew our attention.
- the scathed beings are very dangerous and will not die unless, the chest is pierced up to the point of it heart. -
The noise from the television aroused them to life, and so we got to know where the different sounds had been coming from. The lady continued.
- there seem to be three version of them, and with different attributes. -
She didn't get to explaining it when the, like she said (scathed beings) destroyed the television. A thump from our right hand side drew our attention to our friend, the scathed being. Their noise once again filled up the whole building.  The once by our left hand side had one after the other fell to the first half of the staircase, and could not make it back up, remaining two of them. They were looking on around as if sniffing something out, they raise their nose up and around, then gradually was sniffing us out, coming toward our corridor. Our greatest undoing, was that we don't know our ways around the building. There are two doors leading up to where we are and they are packed up with the scathed. Then Sarahdina said to me, that there seem to be a mini kitchen upstairs here, because Chika was serving our food from around here last night, and she was walking down the stairs yesterday when we met her. She came from the opposite side of the corridor, the kitchen should be at that side, so we are left with, how to get this guy out when he eventually break through the door, he will, with the way he is going about it, then baba said to me.
- take care of my daughter for me-
I don't really get what he said, but our neighbour has taken the door off, and was charging toward us, baba wanted to go after him, but Lotanna pushed him away, and ran toward the coming scathed, it all happened fast in split seconds, Lotanna, on getting to it bent down, and with that force lifts it off, to drop off to downstairs, falling on number of them. We ran to the opposite side, opening the doors, so to find the kitchen, non was a kitchen, and the other two are already after us, they can't really run, but they are pretty fast, then we have to check on the doors where we are coming from. Negotiating the bend, I saw on a door, an inscription (kitchen). I screamed to the others.
- the kitchen! -
I ran in first, and as others were entering, we saw a scathed backing away from us, I screamed.
- scathed -
And we found ourselves struggling with the door. They jumped out, but I was behind, it grabbed at my cloth, but somehow, I managed to slip off from my shirt. On jumping out from the kitchen, I jammed the first scathed of the two coming after us unknowingly, it fell off from up to downstairs, while I fell down like back to the kitchen, tripping the scathed after me, as it was falling, the second one after us collides with it, their heads ramming together, I glided on my buttocks back to the kitchen. One after the other they entered the kitchen, and, turn by turn, I dropped them, piercing their hearts with a knife. Sarahdina, was crying, screaming my name, shouting on the top of her voice that this wasn't part of our plans, to separate from each other. Then I exited from the kitchen, biting from the apple I found in the refrigerator.
We picked some foods, unscrew the gas cylinders, we picked useful weapons that we could found in case of an unexpected scathed. Tying up bedsheets, we came down through the  window, then I torched the building. I did cause I'd hated it, my father it took, and gone it have to. We picked our passports and the cash left also. Sarahdina then asked.
- so where do we go now from here? -
Lotanna offered.
- let's go to my place -
When we heard the voice of a scathed, we took to our heels, carrying our bags on our backs, only baba was carrying nothing.
