Chapter 64

I had to pull myself together and so I did. Jacqueline, Annabeth and I decided to create something against Gretel, so she couldn't harm us, and rather death may come her way. But before we could ever do that, something awful happened, ripping away our powers, till we were left with nothing.

My eyes peeled open several hours later and the numbness drifted away from my body. Tired and worn-out was what I felt. It was as if someone had sucked the energy out of me. After regaining a bit of my strength, I sat up from the ground, my breathing heavy, my lungs swollen as I tried my best to stay awake. My body trembled, shaking involuntarily even though it wasn't cold.

"Jacqueline." I mumbled, holding her hand from afar but it was cold as ice. Her eyes were shut closed, I felt no life from her but her heartbeat was still racing. She was still alive.

Thank God.

It happened suddenly, one minute we were taking and other minute, we fell down. I was the last to fall down and the first one to awake. I crawled over to Annabeth and she woke up.

"That bitch." She cursed as her eyes snapped wide open.

"What is happening?" I asked her.

"Gretel took our powers away, she not only drew power from the eclipse but she also drew power from all the witches around here." Anna explained as she made it halfway up before she fell back down again.

I felt fine. Energy and strength were rushing into my veins and soon enough, I felt completely perfect, as I was before everything.

"You have a wolf so you'll heal." She glanced at me, almost reading my thoughts. "Come here, hold my hand." A frown appeared on her face as I bought my hand to her, she snatched my wrist and murmured a word.

"What are you doing?" I panicked. My nerves changed color just as they did when I practiced magic for the first time, it was a while back.

"Giving you my knowledge." She replied, her eyes still closed, and the coloring draining of her face as she gave me her strength and knowledge. "Get out and kill Gretel." When she released my hand, she dropped down, her head hitting the ground.

I went over to her quick. "Will you be fine?" I asked, worried, hoping nothing would happen to her, alas she was my sister and I owed my life to her for saving my daughter.

Annabeth turned to her side and buried her head on the ground, tearing her gaze away. "I'll be fine. Just need some time alone. Go, it's already getting late." She grunted, throwing her hand at me, telling me to leave.

I checked on Jacqueline again, checking her pulse, confirming she would stay alive. It had to do something with strength—Jacqueline was old and weaker than both of us sisters. I curled my hands together and unlocked the door. It took a long of courage to leave them both behind and unsafe but I had too.

As I walked in the eerie, dead hallways, I noticed the sun was falling down. The sky was a shade of orange and red combined, the clouds were awfully black and the moon was a full one, marking the end of eclipse.

I heard a few yells and screams from outside, stopping, I peeped out of the tall windows, glancing down at the guards that rushed around the rain, panic everywhere. My body trembled at the sight and I scurried downstairs to the gates to leave the castle.

A thunder clashed in the sky and I jumped. Fear crawled across my skin, the tiny hair rising as the power within me ignited. The doors of the castle were shut closed and when I went over to them, a guard stopped me.

"The King's commands, no one can leave." He said.

"I've to go."

"I'm sorry." He lengthened his hand out to stop me but didn't dare to touch me.

"I'm his wife." I reminded him. They couldn't stop me from leaving.

The guard shook his head. "It's the King's command. We answer to him. He had ordered us to keep the castle locked and ensure that no one leaves till his return."

This was stupid! Luciano could be in danger, it had been hours since he left, and then, Gretel was on her way here. I needed to stop her, I had the power too and Annabeth's knowledge of Death magic. I knew how to do it—I knew how to kill her.

I rushed away from the guard at the door and ran around the castle, looking for someone who could help me. The servants were in their quarters, no one was lingering outside in the cold, except for me. Fiona was safe with Valarie and I was sure of that. The room they were in was locked and the hallways around were empty.

No one knew.

I knocked on Vincent's door, hoping he was in the castle as everyone else was gone, it was just the few of us, the guards and the servants.

"Red." Vincent pulled the door open for me. "What are you doing here? You should be in your room." His eyes turned dark, fear crowding within them as he invited me in. I could already tell that he wasn't aware of what had happened with me, Annabeth and Jacqueline.

"I need you to tell the guards to let me go." I said, my voice throaty.

"I can't do that. Luciano didn't leave me in charge—he left no one. The guards won't listen to anyone. And, it's dangerous being outside. The castle has been sealed shut, no witch or anyone else can enter. It's completely fine here." His hand skimmed down my back as he comforted me.

I wasn't here for being comforted.

"No, no, you don't understand. Gretel drew power from us and the witches here, including my sister and Jacqueline, she doesn't have her talisman so the moment she sees Luciano, she will end him. I need to go." My eyes raced around the room, finding a way out, but everything led to the guards.

The castle walls were too big and with the rain pouring down and on them, I couldn't leave.

"Where is Jacqueline?"

"In my room, she's a little weak but will be fine. I've to go." I slipped away from Vincent's room as a thought rang in my mind.

The passageways out of the castle were still intact, they weren't guarded or broken down yet. I found one at every level of the castle and while the spell was still on them, I was able to break it through.

"Sileus." I whispered before looking over my shoulders, ensuring that no one had been following me.

The passageway creaked open for me, inviting me into its darkness. I stepped inside the cold grounds that led me out of the castle with ease. I whipped around and closed the doors just before going down the narrow passage. It was longer than usual and it took me a few minutes before I reached the sea, and then the forbidden forest.

I had never dared to go on this route after killing Charlotte and escaping while I was pregnant. The passageways were only used when I was in dire need—tonight, I was.
