Chapter 11

"There is something I need to tell you..." I trailed off, standing up from the seat. Luciano was always honest and kind to me, I had to do the same.

Confusion took over his features, he let out a low growl and asked, "What is it?"

"I have been hiding a few things from you and I know I shouldn't but there is something inside me that stops me each and every time I try to tell you," I cried out in frustration.

Luciano rushed by my side, and my heart slammed inside my chest, "What is it, Red? Tell me,"

"I met Lisa, a few weeks ago, on the same night I came to Whitebridge and she told me that she had been taken by someone—I don't know who it was or if it was bluff but she seemed terrified. I asked her to come with me but she didn't. She told me that I needed to be careful because there are witches behind me or something!" I blurted out and then took a moment to catch my breath. I felt goosebumps rising on the bare part of my legs.

"What? What are you talking about, Red?"

"Today, I asked you to come because I was afraid that someone would be around. Lisa warned me that they'd come to take me on the mating ceremony. And, I saw them, Luciano, there were a group of women, covered in cloaks, walking towards the cathedral."

"Is that why you panicked and asked to leave immediately?" He asked.

"Yes,"

"Is that all?"

"No, there is more." I drew my bottom lip into my mouth and quivered like a leaf, not wanting to tell what had just happened a few moments ago.

"Tell me, Red." He asked, grabbing my elbows.

I swallowed hard, "Charlotte—she called you while you were in the shower,"

From the looks of him, he was surprised, he moved back and shook his head, "She's dead,"

"She called you and I picked up. I heard her voice, Luciano!" I exclaimed as he moved towards the table to grab his phone.

It was all too frightening.

Witches.

And now, Charlotte.

Luciano looked at his phone and went through the caller's list. When he found Charlotte, horror dawned on his face, "She's dead, you probably heard someone else." He was clearly in denial and I had no way to prove it.

"Trust me, I heard Charlotte."

He dialed the number back and called her. A few seconds passed by and no one picked up. He eyed me and cut off the call.

"I'm not lying,"

"I know..." Luciano stepped away from me and pulled apart the curtains to see the grounds outside. I could sense that he was doing something, looking or maybe sniffing the air. "I don't smell anyone around but we should leave,"

"Why?"

"Because it's dangerous, Red! If you saw Lisa, you should've told me earlier, you put yourself in danger by staying in Whitebridge," he yelled at me and grabbed my elbow. "Do you like it? Being in fucking danger all the time?" He growled at me, his wild side appearing.

"No,"

"Then? Couldn't you have told me earlier? I lose my head over protecting you so I don't have to loose you and you're keeping secrets from me."
