Chapter 4
Before anyone knew, I was gone, away from the castle and away from Brittleburgh. One of Luciano's trusted men drove me to Whitebridge as he couldn't come by himself, after all, that would raise questions and I wanted to be discreet as possible. Just before leaving, I had asked Luciano about Lisa and according to Ben nothing new had came up. They had searched the grounds we were in, met with the packs around there but no one knew where Lisa was or where she went. There was one thing for sure, she couldn't leave by herself, she was too scared to runaway so someone definitely took her. Someone dangerous. Whenever I thought about her, I felt uneasy as there was a raw thought pondering in my head each time.
"We are here, Ms. Red." The man said, stopping the car in front of my Nana's house.
A smile appeared on my lips as I got off the car and got a clearer view of the house. It seemed to be ages since I last came here with Luciano and Ben for speaking with Nana. I missed it–all of it.
"Where would you like me to keep your things?" The man asked, moving towards the boot of the car were my luggages were. I got along a few things from the castle that I could hold onto while I was here.
"Inside my room," I said before walking towards the entrance of my Nana's house and ringing the brand new bell she had put up. After a moment or so, the door swung open and she stepped outside.
"Oh, honey!" She exclaimed, throwing her hands on me. "I missed you. I thought you were going to come by night,"
I pulled away from her and watched the man Luciano had sent walk inside the house. I directed him towards my room and he placed all my luggages there before leaving the area. Once everything was settled down, I sat with my Nana who offered me warm tea and cinnamon rolls.
"Mhm, I missed having these!" I bit into the cinnamon rolls and felt the warm honey sliding down my throat.
"I knew you loved these! How long are you planning onto to staying here?" She asked, sitting beside me and drinking her tea. I was able to inform my Nana beforehand that I was coming in town for a few days. I did want to surprise her but at the same I wanted her to be ready just incase if she was gone somewhere.
"A few days," I raised my head and smiled at her. "I can leave whenever I want to so it's not a problem."
"That's good, honey. How are you feeling?"
"Good," I replied, not giving a thought about her question. After a moment or so, I realized what she meant. "Oh! The baby..." I laughed, "It's perfectly fine. It doesn't even feels like I'm pregnant,"
Nana giggled along with me, "It feels like that for a while. If your mother was alive, she would've been so happy that I can't even tell you."
Setting aside the cup of tea, I placed my hand over Nana's and got closer to her, "She isn't alive but you are. Are you happy with me?"
"I'm happy that you have changed, Red. I don't know what I'd do if they killed you,"
"It's going to be fine now. I have control over my power and my life," I placed my head over hers and spent the rest of the morning just like that.
I had no idea about the time, it passed by so quickly. Nana kept talking and gossiping about the neighborhood while I spoke about everything that had happened since the day I had left Whitebridge. There were so many things, so many stories and so many emotions that passed through me while I spoke to her. It was never-ending. I couldn't believe that I went through a rollercoaster in the past few months and I was still alive at the end of the day even though so many people wanted me dead.
When the sun settled down, I sat beside Nana as she fell into a small nap. She was exhausted from all the talking and cooking that we had been doing in the past few hours. Once she was asleep, I got off the bed and switched off the lamps that brightened up the room. I shut the curtains and walked out of the room, closing the door behind me. Just ahead of me, I found a mess; cups scattered, brownies and chocolates spilled and plates discarded. The entire house was a mess.
It took a while but I cleaned up all the mess and then left the house to see Lisa's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob. They needed to be informed about what happened to their daughter. I couldn't leave them in a blur after all they did for me yesterday morning.
"Oh, Red, what a surprise to see you!" Mrs. Jacob said, opening the front door and inviting me inside her house. "I thought you'd be on your way to California with Lisa?" Doubt was clear in her voice, she kept turning around and looking at me.
"Yes, about that, there is something I need to tell you." I stopped her for a moment. I wasn't here for tea or coffee. "Where is Mr. Jacob?"
"He's at work. Why? Is everything all right?" She asked.
"Everything is not all right, Mrs. Jacob." I sighed. "We ran into some trouble last night and since then Lisa has been missing,"
Horror appeared in her face immediately, her lips parted and she raised her hand towards her mouth, "What?"
Sweat edged my forehead as I spoke, "Yes, we were driving and leaving Pennsylvania when Lisa hit a wolf. It was thundering and the car broke down. We parted ways to find someone or something. Luciano–my mate found me but then we went looking for Lisa and we couldn't find her."
"Oh my god," Tears streamed down her cheeks as she fell on the couch behind her while clutching onto her chest. "My little girl,"
I ran by her side and got on my knees beside her, "I promise that we will find her soon. Luciano has sent a few of his men to search for her and in a few days, we will get to know something." I assured her.
Her collective gasps echoed in the house, "I can't believe it," she cried in her hands. "Please, find her, Red. I don't want to lose her again!"
"I will, Mrs. Jacob, I promise, we will get to her."
That was all I could do for now–assure her with my words just as Luciano assured me with his. Lisa had to be found. After Mrs. Jacob stopped crying, I left and asked her to not worry and just pray that her daughter would be safe wherever she was.
The sky was dark when I stepped out of Lisa's house. The town was fairly crowded, humans walking and cars passing by without a worry. I shoved my hands inside my pockets and walked around the concrete pavements whilst enjoying the peace and the freedom. I yearned to leave that castle for so long and now, I was free. The problem wasn't Luciano but it was those walls that grasped and suffocated me. There was so much danger there, at all times and I needed to always follow the rules.
I wasn't sure whether I wanted to go back there anymore.
I let out a exasperated sigh as the chill grabbed me. The winter was passing by and summer was by the corner, I couldn't wait to enjoy the warmth, the unclouded skies, the leaves rustling, the moist breeze and the radiance from the sun. This winter was the longest ones of my life and it hadn't even ended yet.
I walked past by the crowds and the small buildings. A voice made it's way to my ears and my senses heightened. Someone was whispering for me. My steps froze and I looked around, trying to find the source of the voice. Someone was calling my name but I couldn't make sure which direction was it coming from. I tip-toed further until I entered a park that led towards the woods nearby.
The path to the woods were enclosed and gated, children's were jumping and laughter was thick in the air. My eyes snapped at the direction my name was repeated. I stopped by the gates, squinted my eyes and found the person in the shadows.
"Lisa?"
