My twin brother, Chiko, and I have just now witnessed our mother's last request; "Go back to the Kubo clan...they will have to to take you in since you possess the yellow eyes of Kyohime. And Takara, my treasure..." she holds onto my hand with what little strength she has, "please look after Chiko...make him your second in command so that he can be safe..." Her hand gently wipes away the stray tears escaping my eyes, "Oh, my most precious treasures, you know I love you and your brother so but...my time is up and I must go somewhere else..."
Her eyes grow dull and all at once the light in her eyes extinguishes as she takes her final breath. My brother stare blankly ahead, tears streaming down his cheeks, "What're we gonna do? Are we really going back to the Kubo clan...after everything..."
I hug my brother close to me, unable to speak or comfort him with my voice. Our only answer is to go back to the Kubo household and hope for mercy.

"You come here and expect our help without compensation? How impudent...especially after what your mother did." Our grandmother declares.
I sign back to her, I know our mother's transgressions but you need us. You need a woman leader with golden eyes and a second hand to that leader which will be my brother. I am the only woman of this generation to be birthed with golden eyes, without me your clan will disappear.
She frowns grimly and glares at me, "Remember your place girl! But...we can have an arrangement...you will become the heir but you must marry into a strong family. The Gojo family are having auditions for their head's new bride soon. You will go and try to woo the head of their clan. Do that and you and your brother shall be provided for. Do we have a deal?"
I look back at my brother; I know that we need this in order to survive. We don't have any skills to survive in the normal world; our skills only apply to the jujutsu world.
I sign to her, Fine, I will do this. But we both better be provided for. My brother will be my second in command and I will have no one else.
"Fine. I can agree to your terms. But you better hold up your bargain of marrying into a family stronger than the Zenin clan. For the moment you will be honing your skills and whatever your mother has taught you...knowing her she was prepared for the day that she would die and leave you behind. The sneaky wench."
I hold my brother's hand to stop him from attacking our grandmother and simply bow; giving in to the demands of our new environment.
🧿🧿One Month Later, Gojo Estate🧿🧿
"Remember what we taught you girl...it is quite unfortunate that we can't get you to talk but that might work in our favor. Men of the jujutsu world seem to prefer women who are seen and not heard." The car stops in front of a large mansion; even larger than the Kubo estate. "Go. I will see you after the auditions."
My brother and I take our leave and walk towards the entrance. It has been a month since I've been granted the title of heir to the Kubo clan. And since then I've been rehearsed in all forms of tradition and manners; now the last step to secure my position as head is to marry into a powerful family.
My brother grabs my shoulder and points towards a door filled with silent gossip and excited whispers, "I think that's where we're supposed to go. I'll wait with you, in case Gojo needs a translator."
I sign to him, Thank you and I'm sorry we have to do all of this but I promise it will get better.
My brother ruffles up my hair and says, "Don't worry about it. We're both stuck in this situation so don't feel so alone Takara."
We enter a room filled with many women trying to win over the Gojo head's heart. I sit down on the tatami floor and wait...and wait...and wait.
I can't remember when I fell asleep sitting on the floor but I do remember the giggling of girls and a man's soothing voice saying, "Um...miss you're next."
I open my eyes to a tall man with snowy white hair, wearing a blind fold. I turn to my brother and sign, Would you mind asking him if he understands sign language? I wanna communicate more directly if possible.
My brother turns to the head of the Gojo clan and asks, "Um...my sister would like to know if you can understand sign language."
"I do. Is she deaf?" He asks as he slowly removes his blindfold to reveal beautiful forget me not eyes. His eyes widen as he looks back at me, "I know those eyes, you're Takara Kubo."
Before my brother could answer for me, I sign to him, I am not deaf but I am mute. I haven't been able to speak since my mother killed our father and I am the Kubo heir.
He smirks mischievously and suggests, "Let's walk through the gardens, alone. I wanna know what's hiding behind those golden eyes."
I look back at my brother sign, I'm going with him alone. Wait for me here.
He bows and says, "I understand mistress."
I follow Gojo outside as everyone gawks at us; though I can't understand why, isn't this the same way everyone else has been interviewed?
"So...why did you show up after all this time? From what I and other clans can understand, you, your brother and mother disappeared the night your mother killed your father. Why come back now?"
Our mother died and we had nowhere else to go. She taught us a lot in the way of jujutsu but not enough in the way of skills for the modern world. We were kept away from the world off the grid so we don't have many marketable skills beyond jujutsu.
"And what will you do if you don't succeed in marrying me?" His azure eyes watching my every move and emotion.
Then I guess I could always kill my grandmother and claim the spot in a hostile takeover. That is if I can't takeover peacefully, which I would prefer to do over unnecessary bloodshed.
"And you think you can win with your informal training?" His eyes growing alight with intrigue towards my answer.
Yes, I've inherited a strong technique and I know very well how to use it. And I will use it if my grandmother turns me and my brother away. I will do everything possible to protect us.
He smiles at me brightly and gets down on
one knee in front of me, "Alrighty then, will you marry me, miss Kubo?"My mind stops functioning as I begin to wonder why he chose me over all of the other marriage candidates.
