Chapter Thirty Five: the Culprit

Satoru takes me back to the national park's entrance, where we find Megumi and Nobara waiting for us. They rush over once they spot us. Nobara immediately asks, "Are you ok? You suddenly turned into a giant snake, you breathed fire and the earth was shaking-"

"She's ok, just shaken up." Satoru answers his concerned student.

Before anyone else can speak I spot my brother and his group. I jump out of Satoru's arms and run over to my brother and throw my arms around him. He hugs me back before asking, "Takara, what's wrong? You look pale and your eyes are puffy."

I pull away and tell him, The curse user, she used our mother's body against me in a fight.

"What?! That bitch! Once I get my hands on her I will..." Chiko's golden eye glints with murderous intent.

The next to appear is Atuy's group and once everyone is back and accounted for, Satoru takes me, Chiko and Atuy away to speak privately. Satoru says to me and Chiko, "I'm going to use sign language to make this all go faster for everyone here." He signs to all of us, I found out who the curse user is, but I have to tell you it's not looking good.

My brother clenches his teeth together, "Just tell us! I want to find this fucker and gut her like the animal she is!"

My husband sighs before signing, First I need to inform you that Oki is dead, the curse user killed him and has his body at their hideout. And the curse user is your aunt, Fuyuko Shinoda from your father's side.

I gasp, Atuy covers his mouth in shock, and my brother is fuming, "Fucking bitch! Why is she doing this?!"

I found her tent up north. She kept a lot of her puppets and this kill list at her camp. Your mother's name was already crossed off.

My brother turns away from us and starts to stalk off towards the woods. Satoru calls after him, "And where are you going?"

"Where do you think? I'm going to kill that piece of shit." Chiko says in a low voice.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you."

"Oh yeah? And why the fuck not?"

"Because I've already planned a trap that should bring Fuyuko to a satisfying end." Mischief twinkles in those cerulean blue eyes.

"What's your plan?"

"I'll reveal that later, for now let's get everyone back to Atuy's house to brief the students on these new developments." 

My brother cocks his head to the side, "Why didn't you just tell them along with us?"

"Think what you will Chiko, but I do have a heart and this mission has turned personal for you three. This isn't the sort of information you just share with everyone on the spot."

Chiko looks at him differently than he did before, "I suppose I misjudged you. You are worthy of my sister." 

"Of course I am, I am perfect after all."

"Never mind you're still a jackass."

As Satoru walks away, I turn to Atuy to tell him what happened with my mother. Atuy, when I was in forest the curse user attacked me using my mother's corpse.

His eyes widen, I'm so sorry you had to see that. I wish you weren't alone facing that, but I swear on Katsume's memory I will help you get your revenge. His features start to harden and a look of cold determination takes over him.

Satoru is going to take all of us back to your place to talk strategy. You ready?

Atuy gravely nods his head before trudging forward after Satoru.

Satoru has everyone sat down in Atuy's kitchen to go over his plan for tomorrow. He had just finished briefing his students on the current situation.

"Damn jujutsu clans are so messed up!" Yuji exclaims.

"Welcome to jujutsu sorcery." Maki mumbles to herself.

"Takara suggested that I should make the next phase optional since she's been feeling that this is partially her fault for turning into a personal affair." Satoru leads in.

"What?! No!! That psycho used her own mother's corpse to fight her! I wanna help out, even if it's just grunt work! People like that need to be taken down!" Nobara protests.

"Nobara...he said she wanted it to be optional in which case I also want to help." Megumi declares while holding my gaze. "You handled yourself exceptionally so I want to help you out of a sense of respect."

Before anyone else can speak Satoru claps his hands to get everyone's attention, "While all of that is great, what I was going to say before the interruption was fuck that you're all helping my wife anyways. My plan kind of hinges on multiple people."

"So what is this plan you keep prattling on about?" Chiko demands.

"Takara if you would." I get up and sit beside my husband to start translating for Atuy. "For my lovely students, three of you are going to go to Fuyuko's camp and burn whatever puppets she has. Once you're done one of you will send up a flare for me. I am uncertain of the full scope of her powers so be cautious while there. The remaining three students will hang back in the forest behind Atuy's house in case of an attack. Now for the four of us, Chiko will invite "Oki" over under the guise of comforting Takara about me leaving her. Tell him I left her because I discovered her secret or whatever, just make it believable. I will be hiding in another room waiting for the flare." He looks to each of us, "I know it will be hard to act like you don't know anything but you must make it believable. We want the curse user distracted while one of our teams destroys her weapons, the puppets. Once I see the flare and walk in, it's go time. I will track down Fuyuko with my six eyes and whatever happens to her is up to you three. We will be enacting this plan tomorrow so everyone go get some rest, you're going to need it." 

Chiko approaches me once Satoru dismissed all of us, "Takara...we need to talk." 

I follow my brother into another room where he hugs me, "I'm so sorry you had to deal with that...I should've been there with you. To face that...to see what that bitch did to our mother, you should've never been alone."

I return his hug for a moment before pulling away to tell him what's on my mind, No I wouldn't have wanted you to ever see mom like that. I look away from him and towards the window facing the mountains. Deafening silence surrounds us as the blood red glow of the setting sun shines on us. The same color that will no doubt spill from our aunt tomorrow.
