Chapter Thirty: Dramatic Dinner Party

The moment Satoru's students leave the car to go get everyone else from the inn, I confront him about his weird bet with Oki. Satoru, what was that? Why did you make that stupid bet?

I glare at him and tap my foot against the floor of the van. He blushes and rubs the back of his head, "Yeah I'm sorry baby! It's just...I didn't like how that guy was walking all over you like that."

I sigh, I chose you. I will always choose you and it doesn't matter what Oki says or does, we're married and he needs to accept that. Do you have so little faith in me?

"Of course I have faith in you! I just...felt weird around him. He just made me so mad when he was all over you and questioning our marriage. I'm sorry..."

I'm going to walk to Atuy's house. I need a moment to myself. I open the door and leave before Satoru can even utter another word. 

Everyone else is already outside, ready to leave when they see me leave the van in a huff. Maki's eyes widen, "Oh boy he really must've screwed the pooch."

"There's nothing wrong with getting a divorce!" My brother shouts; only to quickly be elbowed in the side by Nobara.

Megumi simply glances between the van and me before he walks up alongside me. Yuji notices this and calls out, "Hey! Where're ya going Megumi?"

"Takara is the least annoying person out of all of you, so I'm going to walk with her." He walks alongside me under the fading sunset. After walking a couple minutes in silence, he suddenly speaks up, "So what happened back there? I don't think I've ever seen you get mad, especially at Gojo."

I can take people questioning our marriage, even I know our marriage is unconventional to say the least. But when he made that bet with Oki it felt like even he was questioning our relationship and I just couldn't take it. I must sound stupid. I look away from the typically silent boy.

"Not really, I'm mostly impressed that you can even put up with someone like him as your husband. He's an ego maniac, childish, rude, and inconsiderate just to name a few. And you're not normally the type I've seen him mess around with, but I can tell that he's crazy about you. Unfortunately that leads him to do a lot of questionable things like making bets over rice."

I smile at him, So you do care for Satoru?

Megumi lightly blushes and looks away from me, "I-I wouldn't say that, I've just known him for a long time that's all." I quietly giggle to myself at this stubborn boy. "I mean it, I couldn't care less about that douche."

I decide to spare the boy from further teasing, I believe you.

"So Yuji said you snapped a boar's neck." Megumi quickly tries to change the subject.

Yeah I did. When I lived in the woods there were times when we broke our weapons so we had to resort to using our hands for our protection and hunting. And hunting with your bare hands makes for great training. I explain to him as we start nearing Atuy's house.

"And here I thought my childhood was strange."

Before I can ask Megumi anything Satoru is sprinting towards me from Atuy's driveway. "Takara-chan!" My husband latches himself onto me. "Takara I'm sorry baby! Please don't leave me!"

Megumi quickly leaves me to deal with the situation. I touch his face before signing, I'm not leaving you, but I don't ever want you to treat our marriage like a game again. You understand?

He smiles boyishly before pressing multiple kisses to my cheeks, "And I still want to propose to you properly...not for some stupid bet but because I want to."
