~Memory Lane~

It was a warm summers day and Alex was sitting at her desk with her diary and a pencil.
"Dear Diary,
I'm sorry for leaving you in the dark. I've been very preoccupied with recently. First thing you should know is that I have planned out what college I will be attending. I have decided to attend Meadows University, despite my mother and fathers protests. Some other big news I have is I recently became engaged to Marcus Peterson. I am simply...pleased with the engagement.."
I leaned back in my chair and sighed. I knew that marrying Marcus was for the good of my family, but this engagement felt so wrong. It felt rushed and empty. If I was going to marry someone, I would marry them for love. I remember the last time I felt that..
{~Flashback~}

"Zach where are we going?" I asked as he pulled me along.
"You'll see when we get there!" He laughed.
I giggled and smiled.
He pulled me up a hill. The sky was dark and the stars were out. I wasn't supposed to be out this late but I didn't care. It was just me and him.
When we reached the top of the hill, I was amazed. There were beautiful lanterns in every color you can imagine. They lit the sky up as if their were a thousand rainbows.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Zach said looking up at a purple lantern.
"There beautiful." I whispered and smiled.
We both turned to look at each other. Despite the nearby people, In my world  it was just us.
All of a sudden, Zach cupped my face and kissed me.
I kissed back and the world melted away. We kissed each other so passionately, that Zach lifted me off my feet. I cupped his face and he held my back.
When we finally broke away from each other, he set me down and we continued to hold each other.
"You are the most beautiful person I have ever seen." Zach said tucking hair behind my ear.
"Zach" I said blushing.
"I love you Alex." Zach responded.
"Oh I love you." I responded as we pulled each other in to another kiss.

I snapped back to reality by knocking on my door.
"Come in!" I said fixing my hair and shutting my diary.
The door opened and there stood Marcus.
"I thought you'd me in here." He said smiling.
"I was just doing some writing." I responded politely.
"I see. I wanted to let you know that it's time for lunch." He replied.
I nodded.
"I'll be down in a moment." I said awkwardly.
He exited the room and shut the door behind him.
I sighed and leaned back in my chair.
I didn't want to let the memory of Zach go but I was marrying Marcus.
"Alex Teran." I said to myself.
"You are marrying Marcus Peterson and that's that. You love him." I influenced myself.
I buried the thought of not wanting to marry him. I loved Marcus...right?
