Remember this an AU! So her parents, Marcus and other characters will be different.

I sat up from my chair and walked over to my closet. My mother insisted that for every meal I try to make myself "presentable".
"What does she know?" I mumbled under my breath while removing my jacket and replacing it with a cardigan.
I walked over to my dresser and pulled out a pair of white silk gloves.
I looked in the mirror and sighed. With my pink ruffled dress and white cardigan, I looked..different. I felt different. Ever since Zach, I just changed.
Interpreting my thoughts, My mother walked in.
I put on a smile and straightened up.
"Lunch has began." My mother said moving out of the way of the door.
I quickly and quietly exited the room and started towards the lunch hall. Marcus's mansion was filled with portraits, luxury furniture, and expensive..everything. After all, The Peterson's were a high class family and were loaded with money. That's my family's desire. Money.
I reached the lunch hall in almost no time. I took a breathe and opened the door. Marcus was chatting with his family and my family. When I approached the table he stopped what he was doing and came over to me.
"Well hello darling." He said kissing my hand.
I smiled and looked happy although I wasn't .
He motioned for me to sit down and without hesitation I sat.
Marcus sat back down and everyone continued their mindless chatter about the wedding or the latest gossip.
Despite all the conversations happening around me, I dropped in on my mother's and Marcus's uncle's conversation.
"Speaking of the wedding, Alex had ordered pastel blue bridesmaids dresses and so I had to send them back to the damn store." She said annoyingly.
"That's awful." Marcus's uncle spoke.
I picked at my chicken piccata. I didn't feel like eating. Overhearing my mother's conversion, I realized that I saw my life out in front of me. Usually the future is a mystery but to me it was crystal clear.
Endless parties and fancy cruise ships. Luxury, poised and perfect. It was like I was living a different life than 3 years ago. I was.
By the time lunch was through, I had about had it with my mother. First she sends back the bridesmaids dresses, than she insults my choice of wine, and to top it off she insults Zach.
I exited the lunch hall and walked over to my mother. My damn heels made me feel so helpless.
"Mother. I would like a word." I said under my breath.
She turned to look at me. "Yes of course." She said sneering slightly.
I took her to a private area and immediately began talking.
"What is wrong with you?!" I yelled at her.
"Excuse me?" She raised her voice outraged.
"At the dinner table you revealed you sent the bridesmaids dressed back, you criticized the wine I picked and you insulted and disrespected Zach!" I yelled.
She lowered her voice in a very angers tone.
"You should be thankful I sent the dresses back and that cheap wine. And for that backstreet boy.." She began and the stopped.
"He is not a backstreet boy!" I screamed cutting her off.
She looked at me in a disgusted way and answered me.
"3 years ago, You ended it with him because he was a poor scum and couldn't give you half of the things you have now with Peterson." She answered calmly but angry.
I held back tears as my mind went back to the day I ended it with Zach.

{~Flashback~}

Zach and I were laying down in the grass. We were kissing in a way that if anyone caught us it would be inappropriate. I let out a giggle as Zach kissed my neck once. Zach had surprised me with a picnic which was so delightful and romantic. Their were strawberries and cucumbers and cheap wine. I didn't care about the price, what mattered was that he always thought of things that were special in life. In the middle of our kissing affair, We heard a car pull up and saw headlights. I was sitting on Zach's lap with my legs crossed around him at this point. We heard a car door open and saw a black silhouette walk towards us. It's then that I heard my father.
"Alexandra Teran! Get in the car now!" He said in a very upset tone. I can tell that he had saw us kissing.
"Daddy I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed as he came closer towards us.
"Get in the car!" He yelled as he pointed towards our blue muscle car.
I waved goodbye to Zach as I ran to the car.
I saw my dad say something to Zach and tears welled up in my eyes.
My father got in the car and drove us home. He didn't say a word to me and when we arrived home I ran inside to mother.
"Mother! Mother!" I yelled as I ran inside, discarding my heels.
I ran in to the study only to find my mother already there.
She looked angry. My father ran in and shut the door behind him.
"Let's have a chat." He said as he sat down in the study chair furiously.
"Who is the boy?" My mother asked crossly.
"His name is Zachary Todd." I whispered.
"What does this boy do huh? My father asked furiously.
"Drugs? Smoking? What does he do Alexandra?!" He screamed.
"He works as a lamp lighter! He doesn't smoke or do drugs! He's the nicest boy I've ever met and I am so god damn in love with him!"
I screamed. I then covered my mouth. I realized what I said on the last part.
My mother just looked like an angry hawk and didn't say anything. I turned to my father who just sat at his desk and didn't say anything.
"Father?" I asked.
"Mother?" I asked.
Neither of them responded and then I heard a mutter from my father.
"Get out." He muttered.
I began crying and ran out of the room.
I ran out of the house only to find Zach waiting there.
"Zach!" I flung my arms around his neck.
He held my back as I cried in to his shoulder.
I than realized what my family's conversation meant. I pulled off of him to his surprise.
"Zach..W-we can't be together anymore.." I felt the tears running down my face.
I could tell I broke his heart, but he didn't show it. I could tell that his heart was aching.
"We wouldn't have worked out anyway Alex. I mean, I'm not right for you. You are a beautiful, intelligent, funny, Rich girl. I'm just..." he paused for a minute.
"I-I'm just a poor guy. I have 10 dollars in my pocket, I have nothing to my name and I can't provide a life for you.
I just shook my head. I didn't want to break up with him.
He began walking towards his beat up old truck and I ran after him.
"Zach wait! I didn't mean it! We say stupid things all the time but we'll be fine tomorrow!" I exclaimed.
He turned to face me.
"Alex..There's no tomorrow. Your family..hates me and I'm not right for you." He sniffled.
I got angry. My damn family. It's all their fault. But I let my anger out on him.
"Fine! Go then! I hate you! Go! I'm done! You want to push me away? Do it then!" Tears ran down my cheeks at an alarming rate.
Zach began to get in his car and I realized what I just did. I felt awful and I ran after him.
The tears continued to come as I ran.
"Wait Zach! Please!" But it was too late. His truck was already driving down the road.
I collapsed to the ground on my knees.
"Please.." I fought the frog in my throat as the tears welled down my cheeks.
I knew it was over. The love of my life. Gone.

When reality came and took me away from my memories, I felt uneasy. It was like I was reliving the worst day of my life over again.
I looked up and saw my mom still standing in front of me.
"Go away." My mom said as she turned away from me.
I scoffed but walked away angrily. I couldn't stop thinking about Zach. I was wondering what he was doing at this given moment...
