I took a moment to process my thoughts. I realized that going to see Zach was a bad thing to do. With the wedding a few weeks away and the way that I ended things with him..
But I couldn't convince myself out of this one. I had to go, whatever the consequences were.
I walked over to my dresser and picked out something more appropriate for the drive. I chose a dark blue dress with white trim and a white belt.
I threw on an ivory sweater for comfort. I chose some black heels to finish the outfit. After brushing my hair and tying it back in to a very low but elephant ponytail, I walked downstairs.
I took my coat and purse from the coat hanger and Marcus clearly seemed to notice that I was dressed up for an occasion.
"Don't you look fancy." He said randomly which made me jump. I thought he was out.
"Oh" I tried to act amusing. "I just felt like wearing something.. extra special." I responded, trying to act casual.
He just nodded. "Let me know when your home darling." He said trustingly.
"I will." I said as I walked out the door.
I exhaled and walked towards my car. I sat in the front seat and put my hands on the wheel. Honestly, I was scared of what I was to do when I reached Zach's house. I hope he still lived in the same town..

The car ride their was mostly peaceful. Not many cars on the road and the streets weren't crowded. Looking up at the lamps which lined the street, I thought about how I would always wait for Zach after work and be delighted to see him.
"Good times.." I whispered to myself.

Soon after that, I saw the sign that said in white letters "Welcome to Weston-Field". I knew I was close. I took some deep breathes, attempting to calm myself. After a few more minutes of driving, I immediately recognized Zach's house. It's the house where so many of our memories were. When I got out of the car, I stared at the house for a minute. It was exactly how I remembered it. The same old brown door, the simple white framed windows. It was almost as if I was taken back in time.
When I took my glance away from the house, I shut my eyes. Once again, I took a deep breathe and walked towards the front door.
When I reached it, It still had the same rusty, gold door knocker. I knocked on the door three times and heard footsteps approaching. I straightened my posture and looked poised and proper.
When the door opened, Zach stared at me in surprised way. I could tell that he was trying to look relaxed. I tried to keep my straight but polite face but it was very difficult.
He broke the silence. "Hello Alex.." he said in a happy but still surprised tone.
"Hi Zach." I responded.
We both sat in silence for a moment.
Until Zach spoke again.
"What're you doing back here?" He asked curiously.
"I thought you were living in SeaBrook with all your lavish mansions and luxury cars." He joked.
I couldn't help but chuckle. He want wrong. But I then focused on the first question he asked.
I stared down at my black heels.
I gathered my courage and replied to him.
"I came to see you." I said.
He inhaled and exhaled through his nose. I could tell he was thinking.
"Do you want to come in?" He asked opening the door wider.
I looked at him in the eye.
I weighed my options. I sighed.
"Sure." I said hesitatingly.
I stepped inside. The house brought back memories.
The same smell of maple and coffee. I turned my head towards the living room and something immediately caught my eye.
"You still play?" I asked, eyeing the guitar.
"I've been trying to pick it back up again." He responded moving in to the house.
I tried to hide my smile. That guitar was special to me. He would always play for me and we would sing our hearts out.
"Well, uh. Good." I said awkwardly.
"Why don't I put the kettle on? We can talk things over?" Zach asked motioning towards the stove in the kitchen.
"I'd like that." I said giving him a smile.

"So how have you been?" He asked as he sat down with his cup of tea.
"I've been well." I said as I stirred honey in to my tea.
"I've been preoccupied with my..fiancé." I said taking a sip of my tea.
"Your engaged?" He asked taken aback in a silly way.
"I am. The wedding should be splendid." I paused and took another sip.
"You may come if it interests you." I smiled.
His expression changed. He gave me a small smile.
"Sure. I'd love to." He responded quietly.
"We can be friends Zach. It doesn't have to be awkward." I laughed.
"Yeah. You can get married and you and I can be friends." He said in a reassuring way.
"Mhm." I said taking a sip of my tea.
I glanced out the window to a sunset. It was late, but I didn't want to leave. I couldn't leave now, I wasn't finished with closure.
"Would you like to stay for dinner?" Zach asked.
"Dinner?" I said raising my eyebrows slightly.
"Yeah. Dinner. People eat it everyday." Zach said amusingly.
I laughed. "If it's no trouble." I shrugged and smiled.

We both set food on the table. There was chicken, salad and potatoes. Zach opened the fridge and grabbed what seemed to be a beer.
"You want anything?" He asked.
I scanned the fridge with my eyes. I saw a few different options but my eyes just kept laying on the beer. I wanted to drink one so bad. Ever since my engagement to Marcus, I wasn't allowed to drink, clung trees, or anything that would make me not "the perfect image".
Before I could stop myself, I blurted out. "Can I have a beer?" I asked.
"Definitely." He said grabbing another one.
I felt ashamed. But I felt good at the same time.

We both sat down and ate our food. We both chatted and laughed during dinner. We had the best time.

When dinner was over. Zach walked me to the door and out to my car.
"Thank you for dinner." I said smiling.
"Anytime." He said putting a hand on my shoulder.
I but my lower lip. I felt as though if I left than I would break Zach's heart. I couldn't do that.
Zach clearly noticed "the look" I was giving.
"Alex, do you need a place to stay for the night? It's late and I don't want you to have to drive." He asked.
